I downloaded Mozilla, and that works.

Thanks for the help.

I think everything was answered already.
Here a short rundown.

- AniDB does now enforce gzip compression of all html pages (which saves almost 80% bandwidth), some broken browsers may have problems with that

- The change is permanent.

- If you are no longer able to access AniDB get a new browser.
suggestions:
Mozilla or FireFox from http://www.mozilla.org
Opera from http://www.opera.com

- Note: if your internet explorer is broken, downloading an alternative interface like MyIE will _NOT_ fix the problem.
As the internet explorer has lots of security holes it is NOT recommended to use it anyway, so just get one of the browsers noted above.

IE6 and Squid

Post by antaniblinda »

Maybe this can help someone.

I had problems using IE6 through Squid (a proxy server); solved them enabling both "Use HTTP 1.1" and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" in Internet Options.

Firefox is better, anyway :)

I (being a Moz boy for a long time) come across the odd site that supports IE only, which is rather frustrating. It's good to see a website which is going about it the right way and dropping official support for the inferior IE. Better pop-up blocking to boot!

Thanks antaniblinda

I'm using IE 6 with XP and enabling both "Use HTTP 1.1" and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" in Internet Options (Advanced Tab) fixed any problem I had using IE here. I do use other browsers, but since there doesn't seem to be a browser that doesn't have problems with some webpages it's always nice to fix a problem in case a website pops up that uses gzip and only likes IE. So thanks antaniblinda for the fix.

I use IE, and Firefox. I never had such a problem with IE, and it's funny to see a no-IE website using IE-only CSS code... nice... =P

for example :
SCROLLBAR-FACE-COLOR: #a0a7ad;
SCROLLBAR-HIGHLIGHT-COLOR: #ffffff;
SCROLLBAR-SHADOW-COLOR: #abb4bd;
SCROLLBAR-3DLIGHT-COLOR: #abb4bd;
SCROLLBAR-ARROW-COLOR: #3f4953;
SCROLLBAR-TRACK-COLOR: #494D59;
SCROLLBAR-DARKSHADOW-COLOR: #000000;

(that's taken straight from animedb.css file from anidb.net)

*snicker*

Yeah I thought of that too but never mentioned it :)

IE is the only browser that lets you define the color of the scrollbars.

In newer versions of Opera it works too (but is disabled by default).

JaJa... good find arakell.
I hate that kind of customization... it can be disabled by the way. ;)

It can, but actually it looks little better than standard colored scroolbars
(i mean definition on anidb.ath.cx, definition on this forum is IMHO too bright).

Not only is IE problematic for viewing anidb, but it is full of security flaws. There are many reasons to switch to another browser other than IE.

Thanks ticking "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections" fixed my problem, I had to use another of my IPS transparent proxy since the normal one I use is overloaded.
