[chii] Colors in IRC [DENIED]

Post by Yonzie »

When using a text-based IRC client for *NIX (IRSSI specifically), the dark grey color that chii is using is extremely hard to read.

It would IMHO be easier if Chii just alternated beween two or three clear bright colors for the different fields.

What about a general scheme for colors, like "all ed2k-links in color x", "all ep-titles in color y" and so on... or in categories like "anime data", "user data", "db data", "P2P data"...

I know that it currently already *is* quite consistent, but it wouldn't hurt to have some suggestions ;)

@Yonzie: Which colors are easy to read on these text-client without probs? The more, the better ^^

Well... Any non-dark colors (dark grey, bordeaux red, black, etc) are good. I realise this conflicts with mIRC's default white background, but if it's given a black background, all is good.

Here's what I see:

Ok, I now think I aimed a bit too high when suggesting a full change of the colors ^^;;

That one is really only related to "dark grey". It could then just be set to "default color" instead of that grey, or just a new one, like 10 (whatwasthename?) or 3 (dark green, same as for "[add]file"). Both look shitty on that blueish bg, but they should do on black or white...

why don't u just edit your local color table if you're unhappy with the colors displayed? That would fix the problem for other ircbots/topics/... too.
Dunno how to do that in your irc client though. But xchat offers that option

Hm.... Seems I have a few options:
1) Change my terminal (colors) to get what I want
2) Make a .pl script chat changes dark gray to something else
3) Make a .pl script that strips colors entirely.

and the winnner is.... #3! Much better than any of the others.

hrhr,

way to go, although i think that the chii output is much easier to understand if it is colored. that's the main reason why i used irc colors that excessively.

...though I read a few times now, that one tends to overlook the grey parts at first (= when first using it); dunno if a color instead might help there, or if it would just annoy

nah,

the grey parts are mostly the less important parts of a chii result message.
and who would overlook those? u'd have to be quite blind to do so. (or use grey background :o)
