Disclaimer notice for hentai titles [DONE]

Post by Ultima »

I would like to add some kind of disclaimer in relation to hentai titles, since hentai content is sometimes really.. explicit. Even the pics people add are kinda explicit at times. Like at animeondvd.com, for all hentai dvd reviews, they have a disclaimer pop up window wanting you to acknowledge that you are of valid age in your area to view hentai. You hit ok or cancel to enter or leave.

I for one don't really want to have a disclaimer message each time you click on a hentai title, since that would be very annoying, but I've discussed this internally, and exp came up with a good idea.

He suggested to add a "Show Hentai (Adult Content)" option to the profile settings which is unchecked by default. If the box is unchecked in the profile page, each time a user access a hentai genre title, it would give a error or access denied message with a note that to see hentai titles, you have to be of vaild age in your area, and to check the "Show Hentai (Adult Content)" box in the profile page. That way the user is properly informed and knew what the hell he/she was doing, since they enabled the option. It would also prevent any accidental stumbling of minors seeing such content. It may be a hassle at first to check the box on the profile page, but imo most people use the db anyways for looking up anime stuff, so the people who really is searching for hentai stuff prolly wouldn't mind.

Heh, that reminds me of someone once mentioning that AniDB is filtered by his company's proxy due to an "explicit content"-rating... ^^;

I am glad that my company does not filter AniDB - yet. Updated now and then that filter is and I fear one day I will be cut off altogether *shakes in fear of da big admin*

I think this is a good idea. Thought about this a while back and had the idea to have one of the "+" next to the anime description but this way I think is more appropriate.

btw. this would of course also effectively prevent all not-logged in users from accessing hentai titles. but i guess that just can't be helped.

I had that problem at my former employer. As DonGato replied at the time it was probably because of the use of Hentai as keywords, since the ARC forum wasn't filtered out. Scared the shit out of me the first time I wanted to check new release while I was at work and this "Adult Content" appeared.

OK, I don't care anymore since a few weeks. But I probably will in the future again, I don't know where I'll work. Sure AniDB isn't as vital as the ARC forum while at work, but it's just a habit to check it several times a day. It became my main information source with envirosphere and baka-updates.
