Show cliffhangers [DENIED]
Since there has been some (internal) argument on the matter whether anidb should show cliffhangers or not, I'd like to ask that publicly:
Do you want to keep the cliffhanger-indication: Yes or No
Example: Scrapped Princess
Pro:
- Might keep you from watching an ep with a cliffhanger until you have the next one
Con:
- Most of the time, it spoils the ending of one episode

I guess it wouldn't hurt to remove that feauture.
For some animes, it's almost like every episode is a cliffhanger since the storyline is a very important factor and the tension arc spans over the entire anime. Take KGNE as an example. The indicator is rather useless here, since it'd have to be applied to all episodes so far.
And besides, if we were watching these episode in regular TV or DTV, there'd be no cliffhanger warnings - we'd just have to wait until next week to see how the story continues.

I really don't find it necessary. Recaps make sense being mentioned, since they can easily be determined...but as nwa said "every episode of Gundam SEED was a cliffhanger": likewise is with many other animes, and there was often no cliffhanger icon.
Overall I'm neutral to having it, but it is no loss.

well,
i think the real problem is the definition of a cliffhanger.
i'd say it has to be seen in relation with the other eps of the anime, meaning an ep is only a cliffhanger if it is compared to the other eps.
"every episode of Gundam SEED was a cliffhanger", i haven't seen gundam seed yet, but in this case i would mark none of the eps as cliffhanger.
i am aware that the feature becomes kinda useless once we use different standards to decide if something is a cliffhanger or not, and we will certainly do so.
dunno yet, maybe i'll remove it again some day, maybe not.

Although I'd like this to work, to my knowledge, there are only very very few animes that have such an indication.taj wrote:Why not define cliffhanger like: it is cliffhanger, if episode ends with "To be continued..."? Leaving the decision, on whater episode is cliffhanger or not, to maker of Anime.
I like kidan's idea to associate "cliffhanger on last ep" with "unfinished" (vs. "open ended" or simply "finished"), although I'd also want to keep the cliffhanger-indication as it [selfquote:] 'might keep you from watching an ep with a cliffhanger until you have the next one'.
As the poll is at 40-60 (with an incredibly high statistical significance ^^;), I'd like to make a simple suggestion that might satisfy nearly everyone:
If "show cliffhangers" was made a profile-option, everyone could decide on his own whether one likes that feature or not. How about that? ^^
And some have that after *every* episode. Gilgamesh, for example, always ends with "être continue" which is French for "to be continued".wahaha wrote:Although I'd like this to work, to my knowledge, there are only very very few animes that have such an indication.taj wrote:Why not define cliffhanger like: it is cliffhanger, if episode ends with "To be continued..."? I just wanted to add, that most anime TV-Series I've seen so far end an episode with 'suzuku' (written in hiragana), which means 'to be continued' / 'next time'.
I think exp could add the recap-flag, as this will really be useful for sorting out 'boring' episodes. (I really liked the NGE recaps, as those had some epical aspect and nice action in compressed form )

I don't remember having seen tsuzuku in that many different animes. Even worse, I remember that it was often used to just indicate that "there will be a next ep", regardless of the current tension, so I think it's not really suited for cliffhangers...kidan wrote:I just wanted to add, that most anime TV-Series I've seen so far end an episode with 'suzuku' (written in hiragana), which means 'to be continued' / 'next time'.
It's already implemented since a while and can be seen in Chobits for example.kidan wrote:I think exp could add the recap-flag, as this will really be useful for sorting out 'boring' episodes.

That's of course the problem of a neutral recap-icon - it doesn't help you distinguish a possibly boring recap from a good one.kidan wrote:(I really liked the NGE recaps, as those had some epical aspect and nice action in compressed form )
Oh my, exp was faster on this one, than I could immagine. (I guess I had not seen this icon so far).wahaha wrote:It's already implemented since a while and can be seen in Chobits for example.
The 'tsuzuku' I've seen also meant that there is a next episode, thus making it no good indicator. This is what I wanted to state above.
