Most users sort option [DENIED]

Post by shaydwyrm »

I know there's a top 10 on the main page for most users, but I'd like to be able to see the entire list sorted that way. Seems to me that this is a more reliable way to find good anime automatically than the very subjective rating system. Also it's a quick way to see which series will be the fastest downloads.

First of all, the top 10 doesn`t also mean that they will be having the most sources - or even the fastest downloads.

I`m not sure how much cpu/time/bw it`ll cost to put out a list with ALL titles, sorted in some sort of way ... but I think it`s not too useful. After all, the stats aren`t meant that way, just to give a little service ... I mean, it`s almost 900 titles here :)
Then again, if EXP says that it`s okay, you can count on that, but I don`t think it`s worthwhile.

Just go to the animelist and sort by rating or reviews (you will have to discard the ones voted just a couple of times). ;)

Ok, so I guess this isn't such a hot idea for finding the most easily available files, but I was really more interested in finding out which animes are most watched, which is often not the same as being the highest rated.

As for cpu/time/bw, the list can already be sorted 7 different ways ascending and descending, how tough could it be to simply add a statistic to the database?

Of course, if nobody else likes the idea, by all means don't bother...

I don't follow you... if you want the same TOP 10 from the main page but with more results then follow the guidelines I gave you. If you want a 'most viewed' statistics I don't think it is available now and is not the current TOP 10 AFAIK.

Isn't the 'Most Users' list under the top 10 sorted by the number of users that have files for that anime? That sounds almost exactly the same as most viewed to me, although I suppose to be totally accurate it would have to be sorted by number of users that have it marked 'watched'. Maybe I'm wrong... But to clarify, yes, what I'm asking for is a way to sort the database by most viewed.

Most downloaded might not be Most watched as there are lots of people who download files and even burn them without watching them for a while. *looking suspiciously to Gambit*

There are also people who add tons of files to their mylist even before they start downloading those files because they think it's the best way of keeping track of files-I-want-to-download-soon and AniDB currently lacks a "to download" file status or "wishlist" feauture...

Exactly.
Now, when should I start watching WHR ...

Anyway, Most Users mean that people have added this particular series as 'in collection'. A top10 most watched doesn`t exist in our stats. Or rather, does exist, but only as in 'How much % watched from the MyList', which shows only the users who have watched everything they added already, which isn`t useful to display either.
There is also a stat called 'Most episodes watched', but again, that`s the user, not the anime itself.

For having a stat for 'Most watched anime', I think it`s not around, and probably won`t be around for a long while either. Probably because it isn`t very useful to display. Like The Don already said, 'most downloaded' is probably also the most watched one.

First of all, a wishlist feature would be cool.

Second of all, @Gambit: I believe that's exactly the opposite of what DonGato said - most downloaded is not necessarily most watched. Additionally, there really isn't a most downloaded stat available either.

Personally, I think either one of those would be useful. A 'most rated' stat would also be a reasonable alternative, since that would give a good idea of which animes are most objectively rated.

Oh yeah, and I don't know if this really belongs here, but on the subject of statistics - when the animelist is sorted by something other than title, it would be good to be able to jump to something other than the first letter of the title. To clarify, if I sort by year, it would be useful if instead of a,b,c, etc I could jump to a specific year, so that I don't have to hit next some absurd number of times to find animes made in 1985. This would apply to the 'type' and 'eps' sort options too.

If anime #1 has been downloaded by 200 people and #2 has been downloaded by 170 people, guess what the 'watched' difference is? Probably the same as they have been downloaded. If anime #1 has been watched by 150 users, Anime #2 will probably have been watched by 125 ysers or so. It`s not like everyone has watched a certain anime and nobody has watched all eps of another anime.
Of course it can differ with 201 people and 200 people, but do you really think it`s useful to see that a certain anime has been watched by 1 person more than another anime? I think that`s pretty much rediculous :)

I agree, and I also have no interest in nitpicking over a few users. BUT, my point is that I can neither sort by most viewed nor most downloaded. Yeah, ok, so there wouldn't be much difference between the two, but can I see the list sorted by one of them?

And I like 'myqueue', saves having to make the sidebar wider :)

hm,

so basically additional options @ advanced search
and additional sorting possibilities on the advanced search results would take care of this request?
