Question about the group info on a anime?

I keep noticing that near the groups and file numbers released by groups there is a symbol *#* where # is a number and haven't heard about what that represents, can anyone hint me towards what that is because I noticed it recently and don't see any real apparent reason for it. (I know there's a good one, just can't understand it with out asking) So what is that?
