[Ideas] Wishlist/Togetlist/Towatch list [DONE]
Moderator: AniDB
Well, with a wishlist feature I'd add the animes and once I got around to download it I would check what files to get. Also as Yidaki says you'll probably need to add that anyway cause I'd also want to be able to wishlist animes with no files yet.
The only real advantages of a per-file wishlist is that you wont have to look up what files to get once you get around to download a certain anime and that you can automatically remove the entries from the wishlist when a file is added. Personally I wouldn't even use a per-file wishlist or if I used it I would simply add a file under ep 1 because once I get around to download it I want to check if there are new files available and so on.
I use AniDB to REDUCE the amount of time I spend downloading and managing anime, a per-file wishlist represents the complete opposite to this.
The one reason for me to use a per-file wishlist would be if there was an anime with 100 episodes, then I'd add 30 then add the rest to my "wishlist" for fast clicking later. But I think that's a separate feature.
So, imho either implement:
1) Per-anime wishlist
2) Per-anime wishlist AND per-file TOGETlist
Ie, separate the two things, an anime wishlist and a per-file togetlist.

Erm, not at all. I use AniDB for the same purpose, and I try to reduce the time I have to spend working eMule to a minimum. For me, working eMule and browsing AniDB and selecting files are two separate things. I like to do the latter when I have free time and check on eMule only when there's a need to do so (i.e. start another download). When an anime complets downloading, I find it a tremendous help to have the next files already selected in AniDB so that I can add them to eMule quickly.PetriW wrote:I use AniDB to REDUCE the amount of time I spend downloading and managing anime, a per-file wishlist represents the complete opposite to this.
An Anime-wishlist won't allow me to do that. I still have to go to the anime page, check all the files I want to download by reading through the availability, quality, size and group stats, then add those to eMule and finally dump them into the mylist (flagged as "unknown"). With a per-file-wishlist, I can do this work when I actually have the time, and the list of files is ready when I need it.
Elberet, It seems like you miss that I suggest that both ideas are implemented as separate (although I guess the lists can be merged) features. For me a per-file system is a waste of time as I'll always recheck what files to download when I start. Rather, consider this scenario:
You're browsing anime and find a couple of anime you'll want to download but realize you won't do it for at least a month, so you add the files to your "anime wishlist".
A month later you see "ah, now I want to download that soon", you then go to the anime and add the files to your "file getlist" or simply add it to eMule immediatelly.
This would use both features and there are a good reason for both being there. If you only do short term adding as a buffer between AniDB and eMule then a per-file list is all you need. If you like me would keep the wishlist because of harddrive space limitations rather than an eMule queue buffer and only download complete / ongoing animes in full chunks then an anime wishlist would be all that's needed. (I add all 100 episodes at once since AR#3 has no problem with that.)
The idea here is that animes found from sporadic browsing shouldn't require you to add a list of files to a wishlist. The argument that you could potentially add only the first episode works but it's a pretty lousy workaround rather than a solution to the problem.
Idea:
The anime wishlist/getlist could display something like this to represent both ideas:

/me either as well.DonGato wrote:/me neither.PetriW wrote:Personally I wouldn't even use a per-file wishlist...
I don't need to mark aside individual files for future downloading because basically any series I've started and haven't finished is going to end up listed. And for that all I have to do is look at mylist and use the hide the complete series option.
All I want is a way to mark anime titles I'm interested in but haven't started dling yet (or bought yet, since its a list of things I'm interested in, and doesn't exactly have to be a list of things I'm just interested in downloading). Just so I don't forget about them later. If they're marked on a seperate "mywishlist" list, then all I have to do is go in and select the files I want to dl when I'm ready to dl, if I plan on downloading. Just like I do with all my incomplete series already.
Per-file wouldn't work for me, because of animes that have no files listed, and also I worry about marking certain files, and then missing a higher quality release because I was too lazy to go back and check to make sure what I had in mywishlist was still the highest quality file for that episode. In the time between adding that file to the wishlist and when I actually queue it to download, more higher quality releases of it may have been made.
I don't see myself using a per file wishlist.
As for a "to watch list", it would be a neat thing to be able to mark aside certain titles in a seperate list as a "Playing now/next" type feature, making it faster to go through and mark eps watched as I go (since I don't use Chii for this as I like to see the list of eps and their titles as I'm watching).
Basically as it stands now, I keep a list of about 10-15 anime titles written down. These are the ongoing, or complete series, that I'm currently in the process of watching. Once I finish one, I cross it off the list, and pick a new title to replace it. It may seem like overkill to keep a list like this, but when I'm in the mood to watch anime, but not sure exactly what I want to watch, I just look at that short list for awhile and decide from there. Easier than browsing my complete mylist and trying to decide, since my mylist includes over 430 titles.
If there was a way I could "tag" titles I'm in the process of watching (or want to start watching next), and be able to pull up a list of just those titles, a "towatchlist" list in a way, it would certainly be nice. Though I'm not sure if its something everyone would use or just a feature I'm greedy to get my hands on myself. I can certainly live without it but since its in the topic of this thread I'm just expressing my thoughts on it.
Hmm... I wonder if per-file wishlist will make any sence at all. Let's see... if you want certain file and don't know that file already exist then you cannot add it into your wishlist, don't you? To find the file exists you anyway have to go into animelist.
Another way to do what you want is to select wish-groups and wish-anime and you'll get notify (as up2date already do it for example) when your wish is granted. I cannot see better way.
I like the idea to find wished anime with wished quality. But I don't like per-file idea since I cannot know what the file I need before I find it in list. So I want to have wishlist as per-anime list with custom filter (quality, size, group, etc.). I think you do the same but don't know that yet.

Right. Thank you for telling me what I really think.LStranger wrote:I think you do the same but don't know that yet.

Anyway, if nobody besides me needs/wants a per-file wishlist, so be it. I'll just keep on using the "unknown" status for the files I haven't downloaded yet. All I thought was that it'd be nice if there was an extra status for those files and that the mylist would be able to filter those files...
Yeah, a todownload status would work but question is if it's not more work implementing that than just adding a toget separatelly considering all the other places which have to be updated with a toget status for files. For example it would be BAD if the toget files were listed as files you have in the mylist.

Hey, it's not because my post is on the first page that it doesn't count!!!Iceman[grrrr] wrote:I think a wishlist for the files is better than for the anime since you may select them from one fansubber instead of an other for different criteria and just check which one you chose when you have the time to download them.
If you want just another state of your files (may be, with summary page available) then let it be another request. That per-file wishlist doesn't satisfy my needs: if I want add some anime without files or with files with bad quality or group, I'll cannot add that anime in my wishlist then.Elberet wrote:Anyway, if nobody besides me needs/wants a per-file wishlist, so be it. I'm sorry if I offended you or someone else. My English isn't so big to watch all idioms so it may occur. Anyway all I meant is that per-file wishlist I will not use at all and I'll still need wishlist feature since I have no place to put "animes I need now" in mylist. It's all. I will sit now silently.Iceman[grrrr] wrote:Wow you're agressive!!
