Episode Titles
I've noticed some anime with episode titles that are not capitalized as I would normally expect. That is, every word might be capitalized, or no word might be capitalized. I realize that some anime that have been licensed might have odd capitalization for some titles, but those that have not been licensed are also thus.
So I ask, should I creq proper caps into these titles? Further, if there is an obvious typo in the episode title as translated in the fansub, should I correct that in the episode title in anidb?
Inquiring minds want to know.

As far as I'm concerned, different capitalisation isn't a ground for a creq, unless I have other things to correct or add while at it - for example, the release/air date or the original title. But that's just me - if you don't like "wrong" capitalised titles, go ahead.
Typos should be corrected, of course.

nwa: I realize that, and I am referring to episodes with 'the, an, a, of, for, is etc.' capitalized.
The reason I asked this was mostly that I wanted to know if some particular standard had been set that I was unaware of. Sailor Moon has Japanese titles for some episodes, English for others. Is there a standard for this?
I was thinking of going through all the anime I've got and verifying titles, but I wanted to be sure I was doing it properly.

well, there really isn't a standard, although maybe there should be and personally I think that all the episodes should be in English, even though we have a few episodes that are even in kanji form, I usually rename those...
About sailor moon, not all the eps are in Japanese, it seems that the person who added them just couldn't find the english titles and couldn't translate it himself, so isntead of simple Episode 130, he added the romaji... which won't be changed unless someone issues a cerq for changing them to English

I prefer English titles with capitalized words except for the words I listed above

Thank you. I'll feel free, then, to creq the episodes that need title corrections. I own three seasons of sailor moon (the subbed-only seasons one and two, plus season three dubbed and subbed), so I could check those and correct the titles with the official ones, which should be accurate. Should I do so?
If you wanna, go for it. I cReq every tiny little thing until I feel the episode titles are a (near) perfect representation of the original intention. I usually wait until I'm gonna burn a series to disc and go through and translate the original Japanese titles myself, see how close they are to what's on AniDB and then file 15+ cReqs at a time. The mods who have to deal with it might hate you for it,
but they'll grant them if they're reasonable.

azntimm: I have done just that. I hope that the mods (which, for the past 30 or so creqs, can be read as nwa) don't hate me. Please!
PetriW: I believe I read in the bug reports forum that doing so bypasses creqs altogether? I'll look into it. I can use IRC, so if Chii behaves like normal bots I should be able to handle that.
For the record, I had a very eloquent (that is, nearly identical) response nearly ready to submit when my power went out. If I made a huge glaring error you may direct your concerns skyward.

The bug is that it bypasses pending creqs, but apart from that it works fine.gholovo wrote:PetriW: I believe I read in the bug reports forum that doing so bypasses creqs altogether?
The unusual part is that you have to login to use some functions (like !seteptitle). It's /msg Chii[AR] auth anidb_loginname password.gholovo wrote:I can use IRC, so if Chii behaves like normal bots I should be able to handle that.
Regarding changing titles:
I was changing titles in Sailor Moon (http://anidb.ath.cx/perl-bin/animedb.pl ... me&aid=235), happily filing dozens of creqs, when I came upon a problem. The episodes past 46 are marked as Sailor Moon R, Sailor Moon S, and so forth, marking which season they come from. The seasons of Sailor Moon in Japan ran back to back, and follow, I think, a continuous story.
Should I preserve the 'Sailor Moon R - ' (Sailor Moon S, etc.) prior to the episode title when I change the names to English, or should I remove it?

Splitting them may be a good idea. They are licensed for distribution separately and at each boundary a story arc begins/ends. That seems like a good reason to me.
That said, my special subbed-only uncut unedited excellent DVD release from ADV says Season 1 Episodes 1-23, Season 1 Episodes 24-46, Season 2 Episodes 47-66, Season 2 Episodes 68-89 on the spines of the DVDs. Why is Episode 67 missing? Doesn't matter in this discussion...
So, which is the best method?
