help with anime export list

Hi,
i'm a relatively new user to anidb and have figured out how to use most of the features.
However, i cannot seem to get my export list to work... i get the file somerandomnumber.tar and can't do anything with it. I have tried using common zip utilities and opening this file in browsers other than IE (opera and firefox)

Would someone please tell me how to setup this export list as a regular html file???

The file is a "tarball" which is nothing else than a BIG HUGE FILE that contains other files - without any compression. TAR was developed to make it possible for Users to send multiple files combined as one (usually in a UNIX or Linux environment)

De/compression programs can handle tar archives because under normal circumstances, tar files are GZipped after beeing put together, making it a ".tar.gz" file. Therefor you can almost bet your ass that every program that can handle GZipped files can also unpack TAR files.

Under windows, you should get the shareware version of WinRAR 3.x. It can un-zip and un-tar.

you might also have to rename the file extension to .tar.gz
bc the files on anidb are also compressed and your browser changed the file extension to .tar when downloading the file.
it may also have decompressed the content in the process, in this case .tar is the correct extension, but some browsers rename the file, without decompressing the content.

lousy internet exporer renamed the file to .tar the file works with the .tar.gz extension. Thanks a lot...

That's not Internet Explorer but some configuration on your computer. I've tried with IE and it downloads with the proper name.

Gato you have to take into account that even under Windows XP you can now have about twenty different versions of the Internet Explorer, all depending on how far you have patched your system from the first Version of Windows XP.

Additionally there are versions of IE on Windows NT4, Windows 95, 95SE, 98, 98SE, Windows 2000, 2000 Sp1, sp2 sp3 sp4, Windows 64 for AMD, 64 for Intel...

It's like saying "I had no problems using Netscape" when he uses Netscape 3.0 for Unix and you Netscape 7.2 by AOL

the easy way is to get the lastest version of winrar and open the file, it works every time whatever the extension may be.

let's just assume that you got the right and good installation of IE and he has a broken one because "you say so".
