Ecchi and Hentai at the same time? I think not...
For sake of tidyness, please consider removing Ecchi from GG Erolutions' genre list.

OMG, not that argument again ...

The problem's with the definition of "hentai". If we go by the original meaning, only the really perverted stuff (rape, torture, heavy bondage, sex-hungry tentacles, necrophilia and so on ...) would be labeled as such, while anime like Green Green Erolutions, Futari Ecchi and probably even Fencer of Minerva and Buttobi CPU wouldn't. If we think of its meaning as "adult entertainment" (in which case it should have this name, IMNSHO), all of the four anime would have this label.

So, take your pick.

Jeez people, not again.

If you want to determine ecchi from hentai it is simple. If the main focus is SEX then it is hentai. If it is just being perverted and the main focus is NOT SEX then it is ecchi. Now by that definition, which does GG Erolutions fall under?

Note: I have not watched GG Erolutions yet so I'm in the dark, but I have watched a lot of hentai so...

Gloria, Kamyla, Kite - those are hentai, but sex isn't main focus there.
I would rather use ecchi/hentai exclusive as level of perversion.
GG Erolutions in my opinion is only ecchi (more ecchi then standard), not hentai.

GG Erolutions is just softcore erotic so I think it's Ecchi.

It does not deserve the hentai label. There is just not enough sex in that anime, not even a vagina or a direct showing of a penis.

Well, Skywalka is correct: You don't see a penis, but a white blob instead. But that's besides the point, imo. The whole episode is about sexual intercourse, it's performed several times, in dreams and reality, with normal humans and once also with an ice statue. That you don't see all the details is just another effect of the overwhelming mediocricy of this show, but it's a pornographic anime flick nevertheless - not the hardest porn maybe, but definately not softporn either.

Now, as for the problems with the hentai genre itself:
If pantsu-shots and jiggling boobs (but no sex) are ecchi, and tentacles, s&m, rape and bondage are hentai, then we lack a genre for the "normal" pornographic animes with lots of sex but no fetishes.

Well, I think you're right Elberet. It might be not common Hentai but isn't simple ecchi either. Anyway, we should have a new genre Crap where this episode will fit perfectly.

Yeah I agree totally. It's not ecchi and it's not really perverted. well maybe it is if you count in all small parts of pedohilism and sex and fetishes and boy on boy action that is badly displayed.

On second thought it is kinda hentai...

so why is pia carrot then definitely hentai and green green errolutions not? They're same quite the same to me. pia carrot is a bit older though

but it's the same 'level' of hentai imo. and both have a totaly non hentai 'love story' versions of the anime.

so what im saying is, if one of them isnt considered hentai the other should not get that rating either. and the other way around 2

Ecchi vs. Hentai
The distinction between ecchi and hentai is sometimes hard to differentiate, but ecchi would be something that would probably be rated 'R' in the USA, but hentai would frequently be 'X' rated. Just because there is a [usually carefully edited] sex scene in a series in an anime that does not necessarily make it hentai. Sometimes there will be a racier sequel to a popular ecchi series, but often the consensus is that these are also ecchi. If you find something that you think is hentai and is marked ecchi or vice versa, please do not make a request to change it unless you are really sure. Most of these have probably already been discussed thoroughly. We recommend changing the description and adding something like this:

[Although this has the genre ecchi selected, it has strong sexual content and some people may consider this hentai.]

OR

[Although this has the genre hentai selected, it has minimal hentai content and some people may consider this ecchi.]
