Anyone know this anime?

It's really REALLY old and it's about a little boy who's really brave and acts tough and he's trying to protect this little girl. He doesn't have any special powers or anything. On one occasion he was trying his best to stop a huge boulder from rolling down a hill by standing in front of it. I think they had to edit it when they played it in the US cause on certain occasions in the anime you could see the little boy's scrotum. ( he wears those really primitive caveman type clothes ) Anyway, if anyone can tell me the name of this anime it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sorry I know I didn't give a lot of details.
