Knowing that is an userdriven database I know what to expect of (dunno if the mayority of the people) If I find that some info of certain anime i like isnt accurate, i fix it as i can, i think thats the point of having an userdriven DB. I dont want to give the staff more work to do (i know it's a lot, i work in programming too) but it would be nice if it's acceptable.

pd: hail everyone, im new xP.

What's the problem with the current system (censored/uncensored)? I don't see any.
Well, the 'build my own DB'-part was really just meant to be a joke. :)

1: I don't really like programming that much.
2: I propably don't like it because I'm really bad at it.
3: I'm going to study Japanese starting February, so I really don't have time for programming.
borgir wrote:If the point is giving this idea an more general use, i would add an licensed/unlicensed animeflag so you can search for genre and after that something like "show licensed only" option, and it will be of use for all the genres in general, thinking in the people wanting to buy R1s.
That suggestion was a lot better, and a lot more logical than mine...I salute you! However, what Egg mentioned about legal issues is very true - it completely slipped my mind, in fact. More than enough trackers and networks have been shut down because of a high profile (and activity), so it's without a doubt best to keep things simple and clean...not mooning to the licensers.
PetriW wrote:It's not that it's impossible, it's that it's such a large performance issue that to do it properly would require more effort than it's worth. Plus that AniDB doesn't really have an interest in hentai specifically, it's more a sidepart of the site indexing anime and hentai being anime, although for an older age category.
Again; I rejoice in knowing that there are helpful and polite users on the web such as you (not trying to suck up...I just have to say thanks whenever possible). Never really thought about the performance issue...good thing you brought it up.

I already know that AniDB doesn't focus on hentai - and I'm glad they don't.

A database of that proportion focusing on hentai would be a bit disturbing, and as I've said before; I simply noticed a detail that could or could not be added - some people seemed to conclude from that that I was a sick perv. My meaning is that people who are that judgemental can end up throwing innocent men in jail, or beat someone half to death in a bar (the last one almost happened to a friend of mine, because of a really stupid misunderstanding).

Oh, apparently the topic became pretty interesting. Im not very familiar with the USA laws, but ¿Could someone explain what could be the legal issues mentioned before? As i see, anidb lists licensed and unlicensed anime, yet the sharing doesnt have a policy (correct me if im wrong) regarless of this.

you make absolutely no sense. please reread what was said.
the legal issue that was mentioned was about censoreship in porn in japan.

licensed and unlicensed is utter bullshit anyway. it's copyright protected no matter what. it's just retarded people going "omg it's licensed in the us, we won't sub it anymore." you cna spin the wheeel as often as you want it will always end up at "wrong! you loose!"
still this was never the point of this discussion

and what sharing? anidb doesn't distribute ANY files. there is NO file on anidb's servers. all we provide is metadata. what you do with those is out of our control.

That's why I've always loved AniDB a whole lot more than for example Animesuki. ^_^

I'm interested in hearing your views on the changing censorship laws (in Japan). Since the mid-1990's, we've seen several changes in what's deemed 'appropriate', and what's not. Japan has a very different culture from us when it comes to nudity, but as a strange paradox, they have for several years had very strict laws for pornography. However, the past ten years, there has been a strong de-censoring policy. Is this healthy for an already over-sexed nation, craving for more, or will it result in even more bizarre pop-culture phenomenons?

I wont go any further with arguments, since this topic was in first place an feature request. Anyway it would be good to open the corresponding topic about the double standard in Japan in this matter.
