Censored/uncensored

Post by mastertigurius » Wed Oct 11, 2006 5:02 pm

About the new database-system:

Is it possible to add two branches in the 'Hentai'-category which list hentai that's censored only, and the shows with uncensored episodes available? Of course, a keyword would have to be added to each show's page, I guess - but hopefully, there's a way that requires less work. Maybe the values of those 'cen/unc'-images next to the ed2k's can do some good?

Just to illustrate:

Genre (106)
[...]
Hentai (26)
* Censored
* Uncensored
* Sexual Activity (7)
* Sexual Orientation (6)
* Things Involved (10)

let me see if i got this right.

You want a new category, well two, censored and uncensored, under the hentai tree so that you are able to filter animes which have uncensored content?

Two issues if that's what you wan't:

#1: Category searching isn't live yet.
#2: Censored/Uncensored aren't exclusive to hentai animes, check the ongoing discussion here.

the main problem here is that the censored/uncensored flag is a fileflag, not an animeflag.
automatically adding a category based on the existence of any of the two flags is just retarded. not to mention that lots of tards (got a couple spanish ones in mind) dont understand what those flags are about and add them to any of the files they add no matter what.

No reason to be disrespectful to me or others. Not everyone can know about programming and database construction, so you should rather be glad that those who don't have that knowledge instead just focus on having ideas that may or may not be useful. If you have problems with people continually mislabelling files, you should propably consider showing them some tough love, like a temporary ban.

You got my idea perfectly. Sad to see it propably can't be done yet.
Thank you for being helpful, at least - the forum thread was interesting, and you took the time to explain why it can't be done.

wow another please don't hurt my feeling user. even better it's a perv with that attitude. that's sooo cute.
you seriously need to put down that high on your horse attitude. no one likes you on the internet. no one wants you around. if you start crying for mommy no one will help ya and instead point and laug at ya.

back to the point. that this can't work is darn obvious. you are trying to combine a filesearch related feature (filesearch will never ever be added to anidb.) with an anime one. now how the hell should that work. even if you would generalize it down to "oh there is an uncesored file let's set the anime uncensored" it would be retarded. why you ask? hentai is ALWAYS censored when it comes from japan, because of their laws. r1 edition is hence always uncensored. simple logic.
IF and only IF thsi would get added it wouldn't be put into categories as that's the totally wrong place for this. it would be an "anidb report", but i see absolutely no reason for that, because of the previous stated reasons.

Well, the name certainly reflects your initial appeal.

First of all; I know about the laws in Japan...I'm starting my Japanese bachelor the coming spring, aiming to be an interpreter (not trying to impress...just want to illustrate how much I occupy myself with Japan).

Second; I do not have a 'please don't hurt my feelings' attitude...I just hate assholes who can't help showing their lack of social skills on the internet (possibly because they've spent way too much time there).

Third; Just because I watch some hentai doesn't mean I'm a perv. Assholes who stick their hands down the skirts on little schoolgirls are fuckin' pervs (and damn near deserve to be shot). Crazy people who flash their dicks at passers by are pervs. People who watch Big Brother are pervs (or simply don't have a life of their own). I simply saw a detail in your system that could or could not be corrected, and told you about it in an attempt to help. That doesn't mean I spend most of my days watching animated porn. Actually, I've been spending the past few days watching slasher-films, in a lack of better things to do.

To round this off: As I've already said earlier, I understand that it can't be done (the use of your comment can therefore be questioned)...fahrenheit explained it very well.
I'm surprised that a user with about 330 posts actually represented AniDB far better than it's staff could.

What's wrong with watching hentai all day? I do that all the time, I even encode animated pr0n.

Anyway, to put it simply, censored/uncensored is a file-only option, you can't set it for broader usage. Because an episode can contain both - censored and uncensored files and an anime can contain episodes which contain both - censored and uncensored files. :D

With a great risk of digressing; what's with the Japanese and tentacles? Everyone from the west who sees that stuff are initially disgusted, but the Japanese H-market seems to be fine with it, and even has a tradition for it, it seems.
It goes all the way back to the Edo-period (for example depicted in 'The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife' by Hokusai).

What gave them the bright idea that sex with octopuses was hot?

Anyway; to not risk my post being deleted, I should propably say something that's a bit more on subject. I know that episodes can have both uncensored and censored files, what I meant in the first post was that it should be possible to use the info for each file (unc/cen) to sort them. However, I've already been told that it's impossible, so I'll just leave it at that. Maybe I'll study programming for three years instead, and build an anime database that can compete with AniDB! :D

By the way; I'm not really for uncensoring anything other than hentai...in ecchi-shows, the censoring is usually tastefully and humoristically done with f.ex. a funny elephant in front of a penis. That adds to the joke, and simply works well (and avoids that the show becomes nothing more than a hentai with a slightly better script).

You can build the best anime database but if nobody load it I doubt it will have any success. AniDB is a user driven database with almost 5 years of data entry. Do you really think you will accomplish such thing?!

What's the problem with the current system (censored/uncensored)? I don't see any.

It's not that it's impossible, it's that it's such a large performance issue that to do it properly would require more effort than it's worth. Plus that AniDB doesn't really have an interest in hentai specifically, it's more a sidepart of the site indexing anime and hentai being anime, although for an older age category.

It's an area that mylist exports / anidb clients might be interested in.

as for mylist exports, if we are talking about a browser being a client, it's also not very pratical (unless it's a very small list). Though it's possible.

about mylist reports, Der Idiot already said it's not an option.

So like stated, the big issue here is that this is all but pratical/feasable, though possible.

If the point is giving this idea an more general use, i would add an licensed/unlicensed animeflag so you can search for genre and after that something like "show licensed only" option, and it will be of use for all the genres in general, thinking in the people wanting to buy R1s.

Regards.

I'm not sure anidb is geared in the direction where most users care enough to 1: use that info, 2: add that info, 3: keep that info up to date and accurate. you haveto remember that anidb is a userdriven database.

ps. your english is fine.

Not only that, it could start to bring up legal issues. Probably better to leave it off atm.
