files with dual/triple/+ subs [DONE]

Post by zaufany »

The .ogg/.ogm format is very good. It can contain some audio, some video and some sofsubs tracks. This kind of subs can by turned on and off. Some groups are using this future. Some files of the Tenchi Universe from the Zhentarim DivX contain integrated softsubs. What is more Ep 1-4 contain two deferent languages for softsubs: English and Germany. I suggest add two new languages for subs:
triple: none/eng/ger
dual: none/eng

If "none" sound too stupid, I suggest this two.
dual soft: eng/ger
soft: eng

hm,

this is kind of tricky,
basically requests for new languages in the dropdowns belong here but this is a bit more difficult so it might as well be a feature request.
aren't almost all ogm files encoded with soft subs?
bc in that case I'd say we don't need to specify that they are softsubs after all. that would just be a waste of space.
but haveing multiple subs in one file is of course a problem.
bc 2 might work out, but what about those files with 14 subtitle languages?

any ideas?

Sounds like the only solution to support this natively is to change the database and make file <-> language and file <-> subtitles n:n relations... I don't envy you. ;)

Armitage III from [RG] and Burn um W from [anime_fin] are OGM, but have hardsubs.

Some groups dosn't release their anime with hardsubs, but with softsubs. This kind groups are in minority. The zx forces dub/sub versions, so they need ogm. The ogm format isn't popular, so the big zx rules there. If ogm will become more popular, more groups will use it adn hardsubs will return.
The additional field "soft" can be a good solution, but it is a feature request.

[edit]
There is a icon.

Well it is not that much used by groups, but I think ogm is the best format (contianer) which is there at the moment, as it is really easy to handle (no sub files lost, release-packs needed, dual/tripple audio,softsubs,..).

Not all .OGMs are softsubbed, because some groups use it due to the ogg sound format, but most .OGMs are dual audio, and all dual audio releases are softsubbed, so I don't think it's too necessary to have the softsub field.

Multiple sub languages OTOH should be supported. I think it would be nice to have some dual options, and then a wildcard option for three or more languages. The wildcard can also be good for the audio language field... Another idea is, instead of the wildcard option, to have a pair of flags meaning "additional subtitles" and "additional audio tracks" (and those could be specified in the comment for the file).

moved this topic into the feature request forum.
and that thought about selecting something like "additional subs" and write the rest of them into the file comment might be a good idea.

could mark the default sub with an icon and then have one of those cute [+] signs next to it if there are more that are selectable :)

I like this idea too. "Additional information about language" will solve all problems. There will be one icon more after flags. However, dual-audio is common, so this feature shouldn't be removed.

Some sugestion about the icon:

I'm new to this site & even to animes. I'm Turkish, and I translate susbtitles into my native language. My sister likes to watch movies with Turkish subs. But I couldn't find which anime has soft subtitles, which has hard coded. I have Hellsing Ep.1 ogm (animeinfo) and it has hardcoded subs. So it will be nice which has soft or hard coded subs.

ps: I realize that this post is old, what's its situation now??

I actually already do this and did it a couple dozen times when adding information to OGM files. I usually add something like this:

dual audio: eng/jap, both 104 kb/s
dual subs: eng, eng commentaries

There currently is no Icon for this.

Concerning the OGM files: they are the container for files, a container that was developed to support more than just audio/video combinations - usually it means that the file contains an OGG Vorbis audio stream (or multiple streams) -> an .ogm file does not necessary contain ANY subtitles, the ogg container just supports that - similar to the Matroska container format (mkv), while matroska even extended the idea to support DVD-Menue like images included so that the file would present itself as if it was a DVD :)
