Merging sub groups with groups [tracked]

Post by nwa »

I thin that the group entries need to be modified a bit.
This matter occured to me when an AonE staff member was asking about how come their own release list doesn't match the 'files released' in AniDB, the answer was that they count joints, we count joints separately under the sub group entry.

What I'm thinking, is to merge sub groups with their aprents groups, that the release list of the sub groups would be displayed on the parent groups pages.

Something like this:
<General group info page would remain the same>
  • Animes Released by <parent group>:
<parent group's released anime list>
  • xx animes and xxx files released by this group.
  • Animes Released by :
<sub group's released anime list>
  • xx animes and xxx files released by this group.
/..../
  • xx animes and xxx files released in total.

Like this, when going by the current layout.

I'd also want to request 2 cahnges to the DB:
  • 1) Change 'subbed' to 'released' as R1's are presubbed already.
    2) DON'T count CRC incorrect filenames to the total ammount of files released by a group, unless it has been set like that from the start
Why all this?
Well, it'd be more group friendly as AniDB is slowly, but steadily getting more involved with fansub groups and it would give a better overview of the projects the group has been involved in.

Things that I couldn't yet find a solution for: what would happen to the sub groups entries, would they remain just like they are now, or they'd need some changes as well.

I'll make the tracker entry later, unless I receive strong opposition, I've talked with EXP about it, he didn't deny it, but he was wondering if we really want it like that.

I think the word "subbed" is used instead of "released" to somehow suggest that the "intended" use of AniDB is fansubs, not dvdrips.. :)

well whatever the original goeal was it<s pretty clear that rips are not something minor in the db so the name change from subbed to released would make sense.

As for the change to the how the eps are counted it would indeed make sense as well as for now these stats are pretty meaningless

I think you missed my point entirely..

Anyway dvdrip groups also "sub" the anime -- they put the subs from the dvd into the file.. :)

Even better, let's forbid dub-only files from the database.. ;)

Problem will be with .srt files: it's better if they are associated to a RAW.

rar & PetriW, this creq is mainly aimed at you now, as long as you're working on the css, you can change the overall layout...
This can be implemented together with DerIdiot's creq.

Gonna add it to the tracker now as well :P

Aim it at petri, he's probably got the power to do something with this client side, though not having the group relationships explicit in the xml he's passed might prove trixy.

Sorry to quote myself, but I changed a little bit my position within those one year and a half: I agree to forbid non-Japanese/Corean dub files from AniDB.

Like that .srt files can still be associated with a Japanese/Corean RAW, but French/German/Spanish dub would be removed.
