Some checks on new anime [DONE]

Post by DonGato »

Recently I'm seeing too much animes added with only the name and no data or based on rumors. While trying to find something about them I found nothing related on the web or only those same rumors.

AniDB stands for Anime DataBase and I think until now it was following its moto, but recently is being filled of this series with no data and so not useful at all. IMO they shouldn't be there.

Can we have a way to restrict this by requesting some set of data added?

Do you know a better way to avoid this?

Examples:
http://anidb.ath.cx/perl-bin/animedb.pl ... e&aid=1772
Onegai Friends that was briefly added to the DB but it seems was already removed.

Its ancesor (placed on same link) is still good example. There is only english title and type given. No year, no producer, no links, no genres, no description.

You could set it up so that new animes are only visible to moderators and the owner. If the anime information is completely filled in, a pictures is uploaded and at least one episode and file are added, the anime entry is made public automatically. Otherwhise, it remains hidden unless approved by a moderator. Additionally, the form to add an anime should be extended by a "references" field. Text entered there isn't recorded in the anime entry but instead sent to moderators to allow them to verify the new entry. (Think of a link to a news site reporting about a new anime that doesn't have an official homepage yet.)

Considering that the number of new animes per day can be counted on a single hand, this solution wouldn't put any considerable extra load on the mods either.

Well, I don't want to be too restrictive. Just allow new additions only when there is enough data available (like an image or a year of release or number of episodes or official kanji name, not necessarily all of them but at least a combination, like allowing an addition if three values were entered at least).
