Types of Specials [DONE]

Post by egg »

It appears that there are a lot of different things that are put into the DB as specials, generally they are named so that you can tell what they are but not always. Here is a list of things that I know of that are put into specials:

* Making of/Behind the Scenes
* Promo/Trailers/Ads for the upcoming Anime
* Opening Threme/Credits/Intros
* Closing Threme/Credits/Outros
* Anime Music Videos (AMV)
* External Soft-Sub Files
* Fandubs
* Special Features on DVD
* Special Episodes, Episodes not necessarily in the main story line, shown in different time slots/holidays/Conventions/Included on DVD releases... Frequently these are marked with XX.5 to signify when during the series they were aired.
* Other - There are other things that I don't know how to classify, for instance Concerts for Love Hina or the log & Bios files for GiTS SAC...

Anyway, there are as you can see there are a number of different things that are put in there. It would be nice to know what these items are before downloading them.

I second this request.

Untill about three weeks ago, I did not know what an "Omake" is ^^;;

There should be a help text and either a little icon for everything or maybe a three letter abbrevation next to the specials so you know what it is. People tend to name their specials in so many different ways that you don't always know what the special really is and might end up with an AMV you did not really want (happened to me more than once and I _hate_ AMVs).

I second this request, mainly for soft subs.

AMV's should be separated into "official" and "unofficial" aswell.
Because, there are AMV's that comes as extras on DVD's, like on Shaman King, and they could have a higher "must-see" value then an AMV created by a fan (which often doesnt even have music from the anime, but from some rockvideo noone has ever heard of)

AFAIR, fan AMVs do not belong to AniDB at all and must be shot on sight.

definitely, but I recall one or two official music videos flying around somewhere (like here)

If added, however, it should of course be clearly stated that this tag is only for official AMVs, (since unofficial ones will be deleted anyway).

Of course official ones should be ok. I remember AIKa have one (too lazy to check if it is in DB :) and there are a lot more.
