Viewing order in graph [DENIED]

Post by yidaki3 »

Since the viewing order might not be the same as the chronological order, and maybe not even the order set because of the time in the different series/movies, it might be a good idea to add a 1 and 2 and so on next to the animes in the relations graph, so that you know in which order you are supposed to watch it.

Like Bubblegum Crisis, AD Police was made afterwards but it is a prequel, but neither of those facts suggests which one you should watch first. Well, in that example it doesnt really matter, since they dont have that much to do with eachother, but Bubblegum Crisis is the original, and the recommendation would be to watch that one first, even though AD police is listed as a prequel.

Or like in the Macross Saga, stuff is made in different times, Macross Zero is the newest made sofar, but it is set before any of the other series, but its not recommended to watch it first (even though you can, since all Macross series are pretty much standalones)

I hope I'm not confusing anyone :)

The viewing order could listed outside of the graph, but it would probably be most useful there then in any other place.

I think showing the year of the anime should give enough of a hint already.
"A is a prequel of B, but B was produced earlier" - what more do you need ;)

it's not always so that the chronological order is the right viewing order.
some prequels produced later can be better watched before its sequel.
the only rule i can think of is if there are spoilers in either the prequel or the sequel, and to know that you need to watch it first.
if a sequel produced earlier doesnt have spoilers, but the prequel produced later has spoilers, then its better to watch the sequel first. but if the sequel produced earlier has spoilers, and the prequel produced later doesnt, then it might be a better idea to watch the prequel first.
and thats just two series/two movies, imagine a whole set, like all the Gundams or something, the order can be totally mixed up.

i think i just said that right, i'm starting to confuse myself.
maybe there's no need to make it into a feature, maybe there arent that many cases when its needed, i'm not sure.
but it feels like it would make things way easier, especially on series and movies that are produced the same year, which one to watch first...

I don't know, sometimes people differ in what to see first so I don't think that should be stated in the graph. Let the people decide by themselves the best way by looking the dates of release and the relations as wahaha said.

I guess the best way would be to have a text explain what would be a good viewing order.

Think about NGE for instance - there is no easy way explaining how to view this anime and it's different flavours with arrows. You really need some textual explenation to understand it...

hm,

i also think that there is no good way to include such info into the graph.
and the biggest problem would of course be that there would always be animes where ppl's opinions about what to watch first differ.

overall an extra explanation for the viewing order would probably only be usefull to very few animes. so ATM i don't think an extra feature is needed for that.

however i've been thinking about redoing the url/link part of an anime entry to allow listing of multiple links. i could then add a special link type "vieworder" which could link, i.e. to a forum post which explains the recommended order (and the sure to follow discussion would have a nice place right under it :P).

Sounds great :)

Where would one discuss the viewing order, in this forum, or anywhere the one who adds the anime chooses?
It would be nice to force it into this forum, the closer the better so to speak.
