some kind of newcommer anime rating? [DONE]

Post by exp »

Well,

there are always new animes coming out and it's hard to keep track of them all (at least for me :P). so i've been wondering if there might be a good way to do some kind of rating/ranking system of animes which just started airing.

this is probably related to my other post:

any ideas?

Often there are previews for series, maybe you could implement a special kind of file flag for specials that would indicate the preview status.

If that is to problematic there might be another approach and let users vote on the quality of a newcomers series for the first one (two, maybe three) files available.

You could add a small button next to the ed2k dump feedback rows (like the exclamation mark you have when you completely watched a series and did not vote for it yet).

On the Anime's overview page there could be a larger button indicating that this series is "new" and a preview rating vote is currently available, encouraging people who have files for the first one (or two or three) episodes (having files is a requirement, only then the button should show up.

On the Anime list you could add the same icon I mentioned above for the ed2k dump page in a new column (or maybe in the same as the "awards") column) which would indicate that this series is new. That icon would show up always, independent from the user having files for this series already.

A question might be whether a series has to air at the moment or if series that have not yet been available from the past are newly released (for instance mahoujin guru guru is from 1994 but has just recently been available).

I'm in favor of using the "temporary votes" and adding a seperate page for newcomers.

It definitely is. If there were votes specifically marked as being "allowed" as an impression, not as the final vote, it'd moreless become a matter of displaying these all of these "newcomers" on a common page.

About determining these newcomers:
I wouldn't mind relying on the first ep's airing-date for this, or otherwise add an entry to the anime(, which would be moreless redundant).
As a fallback, if the anime's year matches the year in which the first ep has been added, it could be "counted" as the airing-date.

How to display newcomers:
I'd suggest showing all animes which "started airing" in the last 6 (3? 12?) months as newcomers and assigning them a new category in the main menu. The design should be made to quickly help getting an overview of the animes, but also encourage temp-voting, maybe like this: http://wahaha.eu.tt/anidb/newanime/newanime1.htm

*bump*

Since I'm still in favor of such a listing, I'd like to suggest dropping "ed2kwatch" in favor of it ( - since it isn't of much use anymore anyway.)

I implicitly assumed this listing would only be for TV-series, but maybe OVAs could be added in a similar manner on a seperate page... for movies, such a listing probably doesn't make much sense, though
Btw, both for new TV-series and OVAs, the airing-date could easily be taken from sites like Moon Phase (/ Anime Daisuki), so it should be fairly rare to not have a date to sort those by.

I still agree to what wahaha said. Currently I only stumble upon Anime that are subbed by a group I follow, like AnimeOne - because I do not have the time to read the forums to find announcements for stuff that might interest me but is not yet picked up by a group.

So please please (pretty please) add such a listing so that I can find out what is new and hot. Thx :-)

Thanks for the support ^^

To prove my point about the airing-dates, I wasted some hours by setting them for all 2004-animes listed, where possible. :P

Those remaining without a date either didn't air yet (though I set many of those too), or started prior to 2004.

ok,

it's now possible to add an first aired/released date to an anime.
once most new animes have such a value added i'll look into this again.
