Allow longer names [DONE]

Post by rowaasr13 »

This thread is to replace my previous request, because that thread was overtaken by another important discussion.

There's already several title I wan't to add, but since they're pretty long and they're in japanese and therefore I use &#nnnnn; I hit name lenght limit.

So I want either longer names allowed or count &#nnnnn; as one symbol while counting lenght for purpose of checking if it's too long or not.

your thread was overtaken? that was quite funny..

anyway, why not add the romanji instead of the syllables...most of the ppl (including me) can't read kanji/katakana/hiragana while everyone can read romanji and some can understand them after watching countless of animes...
I'm against adding japanese characters to anidb, but it has already been done countless of times so...

I think - as stated in the took over thread - seperate fields for these info would be nice.

PS: If we are a bit nitpicky here: it's roumaji (no 'n')

Source: http://lrnj.com/primer.php
'Note: There is no n in roumaji! Lots of confused students write it, "romanji." Please kick anyone you catch doing that. "Romaji" is the most conventional English spelling, and the one you should probably use, but I use "roumaji" here as the accurate phonetic spelling in the roumaji style I use for Project LRNJ.'

So /me kicks nwa. *g*

My japanese teachers always write "romaji". Fyi it's spelled "ローマ字" in japanese, no u in there, just a long o.

long o are spelt "ou" in my japanese book... i guess there's nothing decided for that! ;)

all in all, don't add romaji to the DB or there will always be creq to modify them! :D

Most common sign I see for long o is ō for katakana (in the 4 books I use). Reason you see ou is because long o with hiragana is indeed written ou. ;)

Long o is almost always ou, except few words where it is oo, so you can see ou in hiragana and even in katakana too. Just try google search for ろうま字 or even ロウマ字. There's similar thing for long e. When you see エー in katakana, there's very high chance it will be ei in hiragana or roumaji.

I still can't add long names to DB myself, yet I see there are some names in it already, much longer than those I can't add. Does that mean that at least mods can do now such a thing and I can fill creqs for those long names?

"Пламенный лабиринт", I suppose? ^^;

The titles take much longer entries now (not restricted to mods), but only as long as they're "Official (Japanese, Kanji)", not for "Official (Other)"...
