A way to report useless Anime/Group comments [DONE]

Post by azntimm »

From the Love Hina page under the Anime/Group comment funciton for group AnimeXPlosion
kenshin wrote:AXP is the best :)
Well, clearly I disagreed with him to an extent, and thus put up my own group review (if you feel I should remove the explitives I can.. not sure how PG the database is supposed to be), but his still stands as a really useless comment. Maybe something could be added to the code to allow a 'report' to be made on people's comments if they think they are spam, useless, or pointless group worship. Then a tiny comment field like with the DB request change field where you can point out what you think is wrong with the writeup.

(Now that I think about it, I'm going to del mine and rewrite it sans expletives. Just a bit pissed about it in the first place... because it's one thing to say put your names somewhere in the opening credits saying "subbed by blah" "editted by blah" which is all well and good, credit where credit's due, thank you very much for bring me anime, I love you. But a 17 sec intro praising your own release group? Come off your goddamn high horse already.. And then I see this silly fanboy mucking up the DB with his spam, I couldn't hold back. OK I'm through, gonna rewrite it.)

Oh, also a tiny typo in the code:

I have to admit that the middle part of your comment still appears a bit too explicit to me (- between "every episode is preceded by..." and "... while some played out techno song blares").
When critizising Stigma's intro, also taking his looks into account partly relativises your criticism. Or would you really have liked the intro better if he would've succeded in "looking badass"? ;)
HOWTO: Vote & Comment on Specific group-encodes wrote:* Do not bash groups because you don`t like them. If you have any comments about them because they`re a bunch of asses, go visit their IRC-channel and voice your opinion there!

* Only post a comment if it is useful for others and if your opinion can't be expressed in the vote already. Comments like 'Bad version', 'Pretty Regular' and 'Great!' that don't tell more than your vote are not useful and will be deleted.

* Please state properly what you mean. Saying "Kinda ... weird" isn`t useful. "Fonts are easy to read, but the size of them is not big enough to see from a distance of 2 meters from a 19" monitor" is a lot more useful instead.
That being said, kenshin's "AXP is the best :)"-comment is gone.

As only the feature-request is remaining, I moved this from "DB Change Requests" to "Feature Requests" and changed the topic.

Alright, I'll admit my criticism comes off rather.. childish, and I suppose I'll rewrite it. My point is (and this will hopefully show in rewritten commentary) that it's too long and too... self-promoting for the ammount of work put into it.

*don't read past here for any real information or anything important, just ranting, no point, just opinion..*

Another example: At first I was a bit miffed when Lunar started putting in 4 second static screens with a picture of the main characters of whatever anime and some information about their groups, but I came around because it's very short, the artwork is sometimes nice, and I think the small, unobtrusive nature of the still frame is justified by the work they put into it. They're a fansub group in the sense of the word, they're doing series that are just airing in Japan, they're writing the translations themselves and a lot of work goes into what they do. So without bashing people who rip from DVD stuff that's already been licensed (because I do appreciate what they do, and don't have enough $$$ to buy every anime I watch), I'd say the ammount of work is much different when everything is set up for you: a clean source (well usually), an english script in the subtitles, etc., etc. that it makes a really long and self-serving intro rather... over the top for the ammount of work put in. Ok, rant off. I don't imagine that this belongs in the feature request, but I had to get it off my chest. Go ahead and del this is if it's bothersome.

And no, it wouldn't be ok if he had succeded in being badass, so I'll write out more why I see it as a problem.
