MyList: Corrupted files [DONE]

Post by Elberet »

Just recently, I got several gigabytes of files with modified AVI headers. The quality is ok, so I don't feel like throwing them away and redownloading the proper files once again, but since the hashes do not match (of course), I can't add these files into my MyList.

However, the original files are in the AniDB, and I already added these original files to my mylist, but this means that the mylist says I have files which in reality are corrupted - and this hurts the files' statistics.

So, what I'm requesting is a flag for files in the mylist. This flag can be set and cleared in the usual edit form. If it is set, the file is listed as usual, but the ed2k download icon and link and replaced with a bug icon to show that I have that file, but my copy of it is broken. Broken files count normally towards the user's ep/files/size stats in the MyPlace (no change), but should not be considered when calculting the availability statistics for a file. (But since that's apparently a lot of work, this part doesn't have to be implemented right away. It's not that necessary anways...)

I guess it could help to know that 30 of the 40 sources have bad files and won't be sharing it! ;)

Well, if 40 people have the file and 30 have it corrupted, it would just display "10" as the first number in the users column.

Speaking of which, if a file is marked as corrupted, it should not be possible to set it's state to Release or Shared; however, "Corrupted" should not be a state of it's own, since a corrupted file can still be "On HDD" or "On CD" or "Unknown".

hm,

as a workaround you could set the file state to deleted.

That's a really dirty workaround tho... And after all, a major thing about that feauture request is the ability to tag files as corrupted regardless of their state.

By the way, if you actually implement this some day and modify all the scripts that use the mylist's state info, you might as well take that opportunity to add the long sought-after "on queue" file state that lets us use the mylist as a per-file wishlist... ;)

I don't see it as a dirty workaround as you in fact don't have that file, and that can mean you deleted the original. The good workaround is not to add that file as it's not correct (doesn't mach CRC nor ED2K hash).

So should I rather add all my never-going-to-be-shared corrupt files to the database then - of course marked as corrupt - and add those to my mylist? :?

Or you can add them as deleted as exp already told you.

One of the problem is when you want to know which series you have on your 400 CDs... those with eps marked deleted won't show.

I like this idea ... I have entire series which have a different crc value, since my PC fucked up one time and resulted in 100 GB crc faulty anime eps. I burned those on cd already, and I`m not willing to replace them. So I second Elberet`s request for adding a 'corrupted' flag to the MyList, so people won`t bother me asking to reshare, or I won`t bother to reshare when asked, since I have a different hash.

And on a second note, it`s not fun to add hashes for files which you know you`re the only one with this faulty/corrupted hash, even though it`s still watchable.
