Review and Permanent vote Modification [oldreq]

Post by MaJutsu »

After reading the first, review to "Ragnarok the Animation, which is just bad and unreflected, i had an idea:
What about locking the "write review" feature until some ( i think at least 5 on 26ep tv shows) Episodes are out?
I mean, i think, no one could wirte a review about an anime, when he just watched the first episode, esspacially of the story.
Similar with the "permanent vote":
I Think it would be better to lock this two, until all eps are out, because, before that happend, no one could see als eps.

About reviews, see http://www.anidb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1206. In short, I'd be in favor allowing such "reviews", but letting the reviewer mark it so that AniDB can treat them properly. (Maybe also leaving out some votes which just can't be made without having seen all eps, such as "value", "enjoyment" and "story").

For permanent votes, it's basically the problem of how to determine which animes are ongoing and which are complete. There's an internal discussion about this, but suggestions are nonetheless welcome ;)

Personally, I`d like that people review only when they have seen all episodes, which would require that all eps have aired at least (which would mean that at least 1 raws or fansub for each ep is available), but it`ll be a hassle anyway.
But - as the laughing man already indicated, there are discussions about it ;)

It might be nice to have a 'preview' (as I name them) to link to the review if someone writes one later. That way you can see a 'first impression' while one can also read the final statement. Might give some people an indication for the first episodes if the reviewer sees things the same way as they do. And if they do - and the final review is still positive, then it might be a good show to download the rest of the eps after all.

Yes, it would be best, to allow the reviews not until the show is finiched (I think so too) but it would be a problem with the really long shows (like naruto)
But the Idea with someting like "first look" is good.

If it was only about Naruto, I'd say that's even another argument for restricting writing reviews to when a series is complete. :twisted:

But apart from that... the main problem here is with series that were added to AniDB and have been released on DVD (e.g. many OVAs) but aren't available as fansubs/DVD-rips via ed2k yet. It'd be impossible to complete the anime in AniDB, but it's very possible for someone to buy the DVDs, watch the anime and write an excellent review about it... :)

Yeah and don't forget that maybe someone will just add bogus files to the DB to be able to write a review ;)

@Elberet
Naruto was the first show that came on my mind, other may be One Piece or Meitantei Conan ^^
And the thing with the ovas are the same with TV shows, because, for these arent any files avaibil, if all eps were on air ;)
You just have to find out, when all eps are out, what should not be the problem. (new idea: whait about a collumn "send eps")
Althoug, with the moment the file is out, some celver person will ad it into the db ;)
@Skywalka
Bugus files are in most caes easy to identify, because, if they were posted with ED2K, theay may have s starbge sice, and lame files are limited.

So, you`re saying that someone would take his time to add bogus files to the database, just to be able to write a review of at least 500 characters? Sounds like a fun person - introduce me at him whenever you encounter one weird enough to do so :D

Yesterday I read a thread here where somebody asked about the "watched" stuff again - whether that counts TV and DVDs too. He was told that AniDB is mostly about files and that it would be of no use if he would add his self-ripped files to the DB if he does not share them.

So my posting was about just that - a person watched all the episodes, maybe on LD, VHS, HKDVD who knows. The files are not commonly available, but he took some time to actually rip the stuff to be able to watch it as an SVCD or whatever - which are .BIN files.

So there are actually files available, he has them, nobody would have ANY use whatsoever of it if he should choose to add those files to the DB but STILL he watched that series and he has files (whatever they may be) and adds those files to the DB just to be able to write a review about it.

That's what I was thinking about :-)

Maybe not that "bogus" kind of files but still pretty ununsable for everyone else except him.
