dunno, but kick/ban no kick/ban policy in AR is not for me to decide.
ask Noir04 about that.

Dunno about threads in perl, but I guess it's never a good idea to go the quick-and-dirty-way

... so, ganbatte-ne? ^^
well it would take much time to reimplement all the stuff and I don't have that time atm. however i'll think about that.
wahaha wrote:Sorry, I did not ask any ops yet. Mainly because I can't offer anything to convince *them*, say, guides (and all the stuff listed below). I know that this one has been repeated in every post now, but if an op is not interested in figuring it out on his own, a second chance might be even harder to get.
Plus, I'm not sure how, e.g., #r-b would react if "!file sk 20" returns "Multiple fids: soldats / r-b" ... or even a-j-files on etg.
I'd prefer preparing for these possibilities, at least by discussing them before advertising for anidb.
you're ryt of course, we don't want to loose those ppl just bc we don't have enough help files yet
Chii won't leave aniverse anytime soon. And if she'll join other irc networks those will be only the ones which don't care about licenced stuff.
So atm we're only thinking about groups on aniverse.
currently that would be 64 of 177 groups in the anidb database.
about the mutliple files issue, well, once could think about giving precedence to the files of the group of the current channel.
so the output might list the info for the file of that group + (other files: 7289/AJ, 3782/Soldats, ...)
not sure about that though.
wahaha wrote:(OT:) As a question of philosophy, should anidb just index all files regardless of group-type (etg-fansubs, aniverse-fansubs, dvdrips, a-j [as a class of it's own]) and let the users rate the files? Or should files be hidden if they're not "good" in any term? (Feel free to choose a better subforum if you want to reply to that ^^)
i am not sure if i got your point there. so you're suggesting that stuff like aj subs or files marked/voted low/med quality should not be displayed by chii?
what would we gain by hiding files?
wahaha wrote:
For sure, *that* would be great

although one should talk about the !addfile-issue then. I guess everyone thinks of "Adding a file to the DB" when he/she sees that instead of "Adding an already indexed file to my list".
well we could rename that to !addtomylist if it helps

Fansub ops would need an easy interface to access their entries, maybe some of them would also want to control the entries for their group, thus become a "partial mod".
One might want to think about another voting-system for file-quality, since (I guess) no group would want to add their files as "unknown" or anything below "high"! Maybe the users should be involved in that point, though I'm not sure how. (Rating every single file is a little annoying)
Code: Select all
!vote sk r-b 10-15 medium (maybe "good"?)
!vote sk soldats high
!vote sk r-b 15-25 high
ATM, it'd be too much to unclude such an option, but not if chii (in other channels) attracts more people.
hm, I guess some kind of group-mod feature would really be usefull if a couple of groups start adding their files seriously.
it can be implemented, takes some time though and i would not start doing it until i know that ppl would use it later.
and about the quality, well, i don't think many ppl would take the time to actually vote for all the files. 95% of the votes for each file would probably be cast by members of the subbing group

i don't think an easy voting interface will change that fact, voting for 10.000 files (even on an anime basis) is simply a hassle so probably no one will do it.

Another point would be adding adding files using a short and easy way to let people have a good start - which could lead to a bunch of <100-file-users who loose their interest in anidb, but that might be solved by some email-reminder after x months of no login.
u mean adding of new files to the db via irc interface? that's really tricky and it will lead to ppl adding files without all the extra info.
however i don't see why that would lead to ppl with <100 files in mylist?
wahaha wrote:
Seems like my motto is: the more you prepare in advance, the better ^^
well that's not a bad thing, though maybe you should just start doing some of the stuff }:o)

Just a few points left for now:
- Why not use Chii as a CRC-database then, too? That might be a functionality that could convince some chans already!
- Include some easy way to let people leave remarks, say "!chii recommend", "!chii comment", "chii bug", or whatever - since that would be targeted to attract mostly IRC-users. Should it rather be an interesting way to switch to edonkey, or a help for IRC-users in order to attract them to try edonkey?
- Guides! I just imagined someone who starts using edonkey and adds .. about... 1000 files to his queue, since that's all the stuff he always wanted

- no, not me ^^
- Add files via crc/size?
- Should one rename this thread to "Prepare Chii to take over all IRC-chans"?
@crcdb:
you mean display crc and md5 sum in !file listing and !ed2k listing and include some new !crc crc, !md5 md5 commands? So ppl can retrieve crcs for files?. Well maybe better make a !crc cmd work like the !file cmd but without all the other file info and w/o ed2k link.
that's pretty simple to implement
@comment:
so u mean they should be able to send me comments or have some real wierd irc based forum style messaging? i don't see why we would need any of that. Just displaying the url to the anidb forum should be enough.
@guides
yeah this is a point we all know by heart now

@add by crc
what do u mean? adding a file with an ed2k link (hash+size)? something lilke !realfileadd {someed2klink}. well that would suck bc ppl would not add any of the extra file infos.
wahaha wrote:
Maybe some of the smaller groups ^^
i.e. ?
wahaha wrote:
Agreed, I'll think about wasting some of my time for this

(once I reinstalled the whole thing)
thx, that would really help.
so what are our points until now:
- we need more docs/helps/howtos for chii and anidb
- chii should offer more crc based functions
- there should be something like a group-mod who is assigned to a group and can then edit all files by that group and that groups db entry.
- chii should send some anidb ad spam on !list cmd via notice
- chii should try to do a !file cmd out of a @find cmd and notice the reply
combined with some short notice that those are no direct download links
- implement new version of chii in some other programming language (i.e. java) and make it abuse and flood proof. Maybe make it modular in a way which allows anidb members to submit own extensions for chii
- advertise chii and anidb in subbing group chans on aniverse
...
BYe!
