Actually, to be honest just because he's doing it as a service to the community with no monetary gain coming from it I'd say Exp has the right to not give a damn about Internet Explorer.
If people paid for the product however it'd be more expected to support IE.

well,

ppl are simply better off not using M$ IE and everyone else is too.
IMHO I am doing them a favor by not supporting M$ IE.
A notable amount of anidb visitors switched from M$ IE to mozilla/firebird or opera after the announcement was made (~ 20%).
And that is a good thing IMHO.

By forcing people to do so you're not better than your beloved Microsoft.
Guiding them to choose a better solution should be the path to follow, but not telling them they would be left in the limbo.

Yes, I saw a switch of AnimeReactor users from 90% being using IE last year to 70% this year start and reaching 50% last month. FireFox is nearly 30% now. Anyway, the lead is still being handled by IE and if you go outside this community to a more open one you will see numbers much bigger for IE. I doubt that will change anytime soon. :P

Actually nobody here is forcing people to drop IE; but they should not complain to exp about things, which are broken in their browser.

I don't really see the problem forcing people to use another browser. They did not complain when MS installed the Browser directly into Windows 95 and started using it, now they download Gigabytes of movies each day and when you tell them "you will just get this movie if you click on these twenty links" they do so without question.

When you then tell them it "could" have been that their browser left trails about them left and right while beeing vulnerable to dozens of unfixed errors, they mostly just shrug and carry on.

If they complain about you asking them to install another browser you can then just shrug because they were able to install ten or more filesharing proggies to get their MP3s, Warez and everything.

I think it is not bad to force people to kind of inoculate themselved against the dangers of the internet.

That was the harsh version.

The mild version is: EXP does not like M$ Browsers so he doesn't want to "fix" parts of the page to suit that browser - and usually the reason is M$ not implementing W3C or other commonly accepted standards - which means non-conformity. As long as EXP sticks to standards nodoby can complain I guess :)

I'd start complaining once neither Firefox/Mozilla nor Opera work anymore for those two browsers usually are very compatible and standard-conform.
