Non-AscII characters in romaji/english titles [done]

Post by belgabor »

(Note: Maybe this should go as a creq or into Feature Requests, maybe even in the client forums, as I don't know, I thought it shoud be discussed :) )

Today I found an english (and romaji) episode title which includes non-ascii characters (Mai-Otome ep 3). Currently they seem to be encoded in iso8859-1 which leads to charset troubles at least in webaom (file renaming on a utf8 file system). Personally I belive non-ascii chars in english/romaji titles should either be forbidden or encoded as utf8 (as Kanji and Other titles are)...

Weren't that english/romaji titles shouldn't include non-ascii characters?

that's the rule, but the site still doesn't check that input field.

related stuff on the tracker:

current solution, belgabor, is to creq non ascii chars away

Thanks, just filed the creq.
Maybe this info should be put on the respective entry pages.
(eg for the episode page add below the hint to use "Episode XX" if the poster doesn't know the title "Please use only ASCII chars.")

This is an inconsistency between ep titles and anime titles. The anime titles are validated, but the ep titles are not.
