[ANIME][TITLES][SYMBOLS] - vs :

in this creq, where someone wanted to change an anime title, changing only the : symbol to -
I asked why do such a thing?
and here's the answer
Just a matter of consistency...since most of the animes in the list have "-" instead of ":" to separate main title from seconday title. And I also find it more accurate to use "-" to split titles, because ":" is used to enumerate.
I agree on the consistency part... ANN for example uses ONLY the : symbol
as for anidb...
here's the list of titles that use : and here's a
list of titles that use -
even if we filter out the titles that use the - symbol for other reasons like Yu-Gi-Oh! (

) then it seems that there are more of these...
so which ones should we follow?

I'm pro "-"
I even made a request to replace the ":" with "-" for AOM's filerenaming:
http://www.anidb.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2213
if we shoudl decide for "-" that renders that option useless so I guess petriw is in favor of it too -.-
anyway looking at the list doesn't matter who wins the mods loose

well the ":" list is a bit shorter. not that I want to influence some people, but...

This had been brought up in
English Title Consistency already. It indeed still lacks a resolution, though.
I'd be fine with both, but with a tendency to prefer the colon.

i would go for the ":" to separate main title from secundary title, for the simple reason that "-" is a connection symbol, you use it to connect words in one word, like "graph-link" for example.
though in normal writting you would use "-" to add after thougts (?), like "anidb rules - he said"..
hmm, but anyways because of cases like yu-gi-oh with separation "-" i would go for the ":" as a separation symbol..
this got confusing.. vote for ":"

oh indeed there already is a similar thread, well it was back when I was away...
but it looks like nothing was really decided there...

I agree in this and I think a bit of confusion can be taken away when saying it like this:
- "-" is much used in titles to give a connection, like in the title "Chivas 1-2-3" or "Lodoss-tou Senki".
- ":" can then be used for the seperation of main title of secondary title
This reminds me of a creq on adding a ":" for KURAU which is open for 2 weeks now.

Count me into the ":" side.
KURAU has no : nor - in its name. Just enter the web site and see.

So the creq should be denied.

I like the ":" seperation, too.

ok.. since someone has to make a decision
I say that from now on, we'll use : to separate main title from the secondary one, any mod who disagrees (EXP?)?
about KURAU, yeah, I dunno why ANN added the : to the title, but the official site has no symbols, the one who creq'ed it should revoke it, or it'll be denied

erm... ":" does not work in ed2k links and filenames.
Any consideration about that? What's the ":" translated into when you clicka link?

Currently, it's ":" -> "."

While we are at it: let's name the ":" thingie. It's called a "colon".

Well, if it's replaced by a "." on ed2k then I would go for "-".

that's not our problema... when ya clicka linka and do a winka winka, it'sa upto eMula to deal with da problema
although windows doesn't suport : in the filenames as well
I remember that I even asked to change the : symbols to something else cause of that
*sigh*
so are all gonna change their vote to - now, instead of : (I will not name it!!)

It is our problem as the replacement is currently done by AniDB.
