[CGI] Descriptions for vote ratings [DONE]

Post by PetriW »

When I've been checking out votes for animes I've noticed that people vote generally high, I think that rather than just "7 points" you should say "7 points: bit above average". Gambit suggested these rankings which I completelly agree with:
5 = not good enough to watch :)
6 = average
7 = bit above average
8 = good, recommending
9 = very good, must watch

This is only for the quick vote, the review voting is good as is imho.

Yes, people vote high.
Many animes are very good, so they are worht high votes. What is more, most of us watch mainly good animes, so votes must be very high.
I use the scale below.

1 - unwatchable
3 - weak, boring

5 - not bad, but nothing unusual
7 - good, recommended
9 - very good, very recommended
10 - too good, I can't forget about it

In my opinion grade 7 is average, but I can recommend it.

/me agrees:

[0 - no anime (it does not qualify as an anime)]
1 - unwatchable (makes me puke)
2 - crappy (beter skip this)
3 - bad (not recomended)
4 - weak (boring)

5 - average (neither bad nor good)
6 - nothing special (might be of interest)
7 - good (recommended)

8 - nice (check this out!)
9 - great (must see)
10 - sugoiiii (I can't forget about it )

the text in brackets should be put into a helpbox, so that people could lookup, which rating is most accurate for the anime they are ranking at the moment.

@zaufany & PetriW:
I just tried to mix both of your suggestions and fill in the blanks. I hope the ranking I did is acceptable for everybody here.

@exp & others:
If you dislike something about this ranking please post your opinion. But remember there are far more important things than the vote-level-names.

I don't really care for how the levels actually come out in the end, all I think is needed is a clarification what each level implies, clearly we can see from the posts here alone that every one of us have a little different view on the subject. :D

I believe the lower ratings should be done a bit different though.

5 - Decent, neither bad nor good (Depends on the person to like it)
4 - Bad (not recommended)
3 - Very bad, really discouraging to watch.

I don`t care about 1 and 2, since I don`t think anything could be worth such a rating. After all, it is anime :) That makes up for the first 2 marks already ;)

7 - Above average (might recommend to some people, not all)
8 - Good anime (Definitely recommended)
9 - Very good anime (must see)

Again, just like the 1 and 2, the 10 is probably hardly ever used. I don`t care what it says, since it shouldn`t be used that often.
The ( ) text is meant to explain what I mean with the ratings.

Might make people think twice before voting 10 for DBZ ^^

I have used the grade 10 twice. For the Tenchi Muyo Ryo-ohki (OAV) and the Video Girl Ai. These series has changed my opinion about the anime. Now I know the anime is something more than a movie.

In my opinion levels nobody will use (like Gambit said) reduce the precision of the vote, as in fact then there are only 7 levels left from the original 10.

And sugoiiii sounds much cooler than masterpiece :wink:

10: masterpiece

i don't think everyone knows the meaning of "sugoiiii", and masterpiece seems much more serious and fitting...

You should read the VG Ai manga then :) It`ll change your opinion about manga as well, since it`s definitely one of the best manga ever :)

I also used 3 times the 10, for sCRYed, Infinite Ryvius and for Fushigi Yuugi. That`s mostly because they are too good for a 9, and even though they`re not masterpieces, they`re closer to a 10 than a 9. I do explain more in the reviews though, so I think it`s okay here.

Bman, if someone doesn`t know the meaning of 'sugoi', then (s)he`s not enough of an otaku to vote a 10 :P
