Disallow adding files for eps w/ airdate in future [DENIED]
Due to a small mistake I came to notice that you can add files for episodes with airdate in the future. I'm guessing that shouldn't be possible.
I doubt people have files for episodes that haven't aired yet or movies that haven't premiered yet. It's sometimes possible to have files for OVAs before streetdate (preorders may have been shipped earlier and may arrive before streetdate), but even that's likely to be rare.
If the airdate is wrong, then you should fix it before adding the file.
And yes, of course episodes (and ovas, and movies) may have relase dates in the future. You can grab them from program guide or series website or whatever and add them. But files - no.

You're right, but still: Having to wait until a mod accepts a CREQ to fix a wrong air date before you can add the file (or episode) is just wrong.
- Information about the air date is released quite soon, so setting air-dates that lie in the future should be possible.
- Since this future could have been set incorrectly (due to a user submitting bogus information or the TV station or distributor changing plans), it should still be possible to add files (or episodes) for the affected episode (or anime) before the wrong air-date has been fixed in the database.
This is simply a matter of convenience. Preventing the addition of files before the air-date doesn't have any real benefit but brings a lot of incovenience. I'd call a classic misfeauture.

Dude, I had "Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers" on DVD-R three months before the DVD came out.
Another example: Spiderman 2 - "This item will be released on November 30, 2004" - I already got the Fullscreen DVD-RIP here.

Premiered is when shown in a theater or TV and I doubt you would have any DVD before that.
Premiered = appear in a first performance; appear in a first presentation.
Ever bought an OVA or any other direct-to-video release?
Not every movie makes it to the cinemas, and please don't make me add a link to the official anime faq to explain to you what "OVA" stands for.
OVAs and relase-to-DVD movies "premiere" on DVD and that's what the production companies call it.
It's pretty much the same as a premiere on TV and in Cinema. This way or the other you are picking on the expression now which has nothing to do with the request itself so I suggest we get back to that to resolve that matter or maybe refine the request so actually something is changed there to maybe incorporate something like a "grace period" before a certain "official date". If you like you can call it what you want, that doesn't change the problem this post is dealing with. But thanks for your input.

I don't understand where the dvd-release confusion comes here..
Theatrical premieres in theatres. The date on the movie should be the first date it's shown - which may well be a special show not open for public.
There may be review copies before premiere date, but I doubt many people really have files before the premiere date. And no, I couldn't care less about Spiderman until it's animated in Japan and becomes Spiderman the Anime.
TV shows have airdates for episodes. Review copies are extremely unlikely, and I doubt the episodes really leak from studio, producer, or broadcaster.
OAVs are the only ones that have significant probability of files before streetdate, as it's common for pre-releases to ship a little before streetdate.
Note that I count direct-to-dvd movies as OAVs in this case, as anidb help suggests for type based on original distribution method - thus direct-to-dvd movie shouldn't be labeled as movie but OVA, and TV movie should be labeled as TV, not movie.
So, back to my original point: if something hasn't been released, there can't be files and thus adding files is not appropriate. Because of server clock, one day before should of course be possible, and because OAVs may be available before streetdate, maybe one week grace period would be appropriate for them?
PS.
Skywalka: DVD release of existing movie doesn't change release date at all. The movie already premiered on big screen long before dvd release. I might every now and then have items before streetdate, but I don't recall getting theatricals before big screen premiere or TV episodes before TV airing.

I don't quite get you folks. It seems you don't actually acknowledge the sheer facts of filesharing these days.
Is it so hard to understand that before a DVD makes it to the retailer, the actual film material has already been processed? Why do you think that nowadays popular movies, games and everything else that can be digitized hit the internet way before the actual release date to TV, cinemas or just DVD, or maybe even a book or audiobook. If Bill Clinton writes a book and you simply know that it will sell one million copies, you have to print those 1 million books first, which takes about what? Two months? Still the book was finished way before that and if somebody makes a PDF out of it and puts in on the ed2k network, it is _available long before the release date_.
All I am saying is that there are a million ways to get to the actual material that will end up on the distribution item (book, cd, dvd, filmroll, whatever) way before the stuff is actually in stores these days. And it doesn't matter whether it's a book, a picture, a movie or two episodes of Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex.
Therefor I would like to be able to add a file to AniDB even before the actual material has been released to the general public in stores. It's a simple fact that the stuff is available before these dates and no matter how much you _think_ it is unlikely that anything is available before the actual release date, they simply are. We can now argue about how much this is the case for Anime but I think it should not be percentage based. If the next Ghibli is available even before the DVD comes out, or if maybe a screener is out before the movie hits the theaters, or even better if a screener-dvd has been ripped (a dvd sent to production people to show them the movie) then it should be possible to add such a file to AniDB so everybody can get it.
