Can't get the client to work

Post by BRD529 »

I just downloaded the client, it crashes right on startup. The message says "the application generated an exception thet could not be handled", no other clues so far.
The system is win2000 with all patches, dotnet is version 1.1, all files were downloaded today so they shold be fresh.
Any ideas? Am i missing something?
Thanks.

Yes i did. I installed the Dotnet 1.1 redist files, extracted the anidb client, entered my account settings and started the program. It is always that same reproducable error.
Did you get the client to work?

I finally have the client running under xp. Maybe this is a win2k related bug? I really wonder if there are any win2k clients out there at all.
Thanks for your advice anyway!

At last I got that problem solved. My system needed an upgrade of the MDAC components to version 2.71.

I have Win2000, and my AniDB starts normaly, but MyList is completely empty, and it doesnt want to stay connected to AniDB.

[20/03/2004 2:37:54 PM] - Trying to connect to AniDB...
[20/03/2004 2:37:55 PM] - Connected to AniDB.
[20/03/2004 2:37:56 PM] - Executing new AniDB command.
[20/03/2004 2:37:58 PM] - Disconnected from AniDB.

I have added about 50GB of anime I have on my drive, and I can see that on my "mylist" page, but its not shown in my program, and I cant upload my CDs directly from the program. I had to use the web interface.

I might add some stuff to write debug information to a file in a version soon. In the meantime try deleting all files in the kowai folder except the ones named local_ something. This will redownload your mylist etc.
Also, make sure you're using the latest version (0.4.4).

Also, please note that the rest of this thread is about another AniDB client that is no longer updated.

Well, the client doesn't stays connected. It sends changes, downloads the updates from the database, then disconnect.
