The word "ed2k" is displayed twice.

Post by Amour »

When you've done hashing a file, it displays at the bottom of the window:
Done hashing test.avi with ed2k ed2k://|file|test.avi|

Displaying the phrase "ed2k" twice is redundant. (As well as the filename).
Plus, the ed2k link is trunkated, I can only read the beginning of it.

I suggest one of the following:
A) you remove one instance of "ed2k":
Done hashing test.avi with ed2k://|file|test.avi|

B) you remove one instance of both "ed2k" and filename:
Done hashing ed2k://|file|test.avi|

C) you separate everything:
Done hashing test.avi with size 100 and ed2k 0123456789

In all case, only display "ed2k" once, and lengthen the size of the displayed string. Thanks.

not really - it first says what it is, then it says the link, it is just like saying "URL http://anidb.info" which isn't redundant, but most people would recognize it anyway (which is the case here). the second "ed2k" is part of the link, thus it can't be used to describe what it is.

I do like your B suggestion though. that one has merit imo, since all you need to describe a file accurately enough is an ed2k-link. but the problem arises with people who don't know what ed2k is. they wouldn't understand what it says (without some research), so keeping it like it is, with text describing that it is indeed an ed2k link that will be displayed is probably for the best.

Option B is not a good idea because it should have the ORIGINAL file name. I have gotten files from some people and it is hard to tell from the name what it was (for example when two subbing groups have different number, DVD versus TV or other reasons). You could have Test 10 [ABC].avi, Test 10 [DEF].avi, but they are reallly different eps and the ed2k would show the file name according to AniDB. Things can be even worse if people were creative with their file names.

oh. I didn't know the ed2k link displayed the anidb filename and not the local filename .. in that case I retract my statement that B was a good option
