Well

we could still need perl/java/c++/... coders.
drop by in #anidb-dev @ irc.chatsociety.net if you want to help out.

Stuff on our todo list:
- java platform independent full anidb client
- java platform independent limited udp notification anidb client
- c++ windows limited udp notification anidb client
- java applet based client for anidb (mainly hashing/mylistadd/renaming)
- css/js code for the anidb html pages (to allow personal styles, smaller code, ...)
- LOTS of anidb cgi stuff (perl)
- irc bot stuff (perl, some java stuff)
- anidb api daemon (perl, maybe java/c++ in the future)
- ...

I don't want to be a very bad zealot but why did you have to make it in perl? I mean if it was PHP I'd love to help.
Perl is a one man's language. Eg. you write it - only you understand it :(
Disclaimer: my job is to write perl stuff day by day (   ).

that's an easy one, bc I have years of perl experience and never really got to like php. so it was a personal choice.

and the anidb might be somewhat quick and dirty but i think it is possible for other ppl to work with the code.

Come on, you can write maintainable Perl code. It all depends on how lazy the programmer wants to be. And you can write messy and unmaintainable code in any language.

Is this still on?

If so, I think I can help you out a little bit with the java stuff.

liqid, take a look at AniDB Java Applet?. We're discussing there about a part of the project that needs some Java expert. You might want to participate there and try to give a good alternative.

Hey, are the java platform independant limited/full clients still up for coding?

My friend and I are quite willing to do/help with them if they are.

I've looked at the UDP connections myself for personal ideas I have, and have noticed that the Notify client if still needed, might be possible for me to write in C++, it might be helpful if there's a login that always has a notify available for download so I can use this for testing.

In addition i use specialized utils, so that it might be possible to port most of my code if desired (other then my MFC front ends) to other systems with minor rewritings of a few basic functions. Just a possible option.

The one thing I've not had too much luck with though is getting other code to minimize into a taskbar thing (something the notification system should have), however I should be able to get that to work if I focus my attention on it after I get the main system working.

I am just offering my help, I can't guarentee any results, as while I have a good amount of time now, that might change, but I'd be happy to work towards this, but if the job is open and the program is still desired, I'd be glad to work towards it solo, or a group would like an active programmer something could be arranged. In addition if all things go well and I have additional time It's entirely possible that I may also be available for a java notification client as well, depending on time constraints and personal interest after I finish the C++ version, as a brushing up on java wouldn't be unwarrented.

If anyone is looking into this or wishes to discuss my plans, let me know at Frank.Reese@gmail.com (info going up on the wiki also)
