Source code and schemas?

Source code and schemas?
Is it possible to get a copy of the source? and database schema?
As I thought. Still I would like a long answer, or some reasoning, if Exp simply can not be bothered preparing the source for release I can understand that.
I want to look at it to see how it works, if it can be ported to another language easily enough, if I could help improve it and if it can be modified for use with other things; a non-anime db, so that no one has to reinvent the wheel.
I will be on IRC if anyone(preferably someone with some authority on the matter so it can be settled quickly) would like to discuss things there.

I was hoping he was not that kind of person. Oh well, I am no worse off than I started, still have to roll my own.PetriW wrote:Most likely hell will freeze first, Exp doesn't at all like the prospect of others copying his work.
Rar: I know my position is not so good, but what would you have me do?
As it is now its a pretty specific code base, theres no reason to release it to anyone however well known, or not, they are. It comes down to if he wants to either way, and so it is not common sense to waste a year sucking up when I can ask now.
I could, but I can not. Helping with that stuff would be going out of my way, where as I could help out with the main thing as that is something I have to do anyways. And especialy now that I have to build stuff up from scratch I will not have time. However I will keep it in mind if I ever need a break and feel like working on something else.
If you not only want to take anidb's source code and use it for your own database (a misguided idea; databases vary a lot and the time spent writing your own will be comparable to that spent adapting anidb and fixing its design issues) but also feel that contributing to anidb itself is too much trouble, you're exactly the sort of person most people wouldn't want to give their source to. (I wouldn't mind, but I'm odd like that and thankfully anidb is not mine to give.)
I would contribute to anidb itself in the course of using it because that would be helping me as well, working on its peripheral projects does not help me. Sorry for offering to help where I can, you seem to just want people to do the grunt work, and thats exactly the sort of thing people would not want to give their time to.
AniDB is doing just fine.Kattana wrote:I would contribute to anidb itself in the course of using it because that would be helping me as well, working on its peripheral projects does not help me. Anyway, if you wish to use someone elses work on your own terms find an opensource project. AniDB is not such a project (for several very good reasons).
which were already posted in some other thread on this forum IIRC, so use the search function :PPetriW wrote:AniDB is not such a project (for several very good reasons).
in short, there are many places and ways how ppl can contribute to anidb and the list is getting longer and longer.
however, the full source will never be available to the public, only parts of it.
BYe!
