A feature/bugtracker for Anidb? - Anyone interested?

Post by exp »

well,

I think we could need a real feature and bugtracker for anidb.
Using the forum for this kind of stuff becomes kinda cumbersome.

Anyone interested in writing/setting-up and hosting something like this?

Have you checked eMule Plus features/bugs pages?
They are based on Mantis butracker so I don't know if you want that level of complexity/detail because you need to setup Mantis for that. :/

Is there more than that?
bc from just looking at that I am missing several features which are essential in my oppinion.
a) an option to mark feature requests as denied
b) user comments on feature requests and bug reports
c) user voting on freqs and bug reports
d) many sorting and searching functions
e) detailed history views for the entries
f) ...

Go to http://www.mantisbt.org/ and see the Demo (left menu).
I don't think it has voting options (at least the old version we have) but I think you can program that part in php.

Remember this is a bugtracker (that can also handle features) but not an open system.

The pages we made at eMule Plus are simple views of the data for users not to register in the database. Another option would be to tie it to the phpBB user database but I'm afraid some modifications will be needed.

EDIT: of all the rest I saw Scarab is another possible option.

hm,

well i guess it's important that there is at least one simple interface to view, add and comment bug reports and feature requests.
scarab seems very powerful but also too complicated for most users (unless there is some simpler interface).
mantis, well can't say yet, the demo page is sooooo slow that I am not making any progress x_X

but I think that if we really make this switch (form->tracker) the tracker should offer us all those neat features which will make our live easier.
And I think voting on feature requests and bug reports is a very important aspect.

Well, I haven't found any with such thing as voting. You might have to extend one of the already available products. It's true that Mantis is much easier than scarab. You will need someone who takes the job to make that voting feature for Mantis.

If needed I can setup a testing facility tomorrow.

It seems Mantis devs are aware of the need for a voting facility and are working on it: http://www.mantisbt.org/mantis/view.php?id=668. But as exp they are always busy!

Note the date. ^^;

Anyway, I had a quick look at the current version: The code looks pretty easy to modify, so I could give it a try.

Well... we can try over the site I will make tomorrow and see if it can be tailored to our needs. I will send access information for you Wahaha so you can play with the pages/database. ;)

IMO, there are two things to do:

1. Integration with forum authentictation (don't know if needed on the light of recent exp comments about database/hosting)

2. Enable voting feature for registered/non-registered(???) users

Now, who has a nice video card to lend me?! :P
Mine is dying.
