Whats the difference between Macross and Robotech?

On site: robotech is used as an alternative name.

Does that mean robotech has 36 episodes as well?
Then how come the AniMecha has 85?

If those 85 includes other macross series besides the original, which ones are they?

That means Robotech is synonym or alias name to Macross (ie. they are the exactly same anime). and hence they have the exact same amount of episodes.

You will find a lot of stuff with a whole series including all (or parts of the) relations on 3:d party sites. The filenames will normally hint you to which anime the file belongs.

Robotech is the US butchering of three unrelated series:

Macross
Southern Cross
Mospeada

These three unrelated animes had their plot completely rewritten to be merged into one: Robotech.

the problem I am running into is... I am looking for the original macross series (the 36 episode one) and the only close thing I find is robotech...

as the last reply said, robotech merges 3 series together... but how much of the content does it alter? Are characters/story line modified beyond original intentions? Are dialogs in English?

Dialogs are obviously in English as it is an American production; if you want the story of Macross, don't go for Robotech >_<
