Need help remembering a certain movie

I saw something when I was a kid, but I don't know what it was called. I'm hoping that someone here by chance knows what it is.

I don't remember much, but there was a military involved, and at the end of it, there were images in the sky of two women and a song in Japanese (I think) was being sung. The ending line of the song was "good bye for now" since the lyrics were titled at the bottom.

I'm fairly certain it was a move, since I saw it on a channel where they often played movies and wouldn't play anything else.

Can someone please help me out? It's driving me nuts, and I've looked all I can for what my memory can do for me.

I... don't know. It could be, since Macross is fairly well-known. If it's fits all of the criteria above, it very well could be. I'll watch it when I can and find out.
