looking for an anime

The deal is, I'm looking for an anime that was on belgian television about 10 years ago. I know this is hard 
The storyline is about this weak looking guy that uses a crucifix shaped (roughly) crystal to transform into some uberfighting cyborg kinda thing. He can only do that for 1h straight (if I remember correctly).
Later on, the crystal shatters, but the "army" he's in repairs it, although he needs a tranformation chamber (which they cleverly placed inside a big fighting robot) to transform.
There is ofc an villain too and he also possesses a similar crystal.
Maybe this helps:
In one of the first episodes he's getting beaten up by a teammember, who uses his wrist watch as an extra.
If anyone has any info regarding this anime series...
