Searching for anime about football: Captain Tsubasa(?)

I'm looking for an anime that aired in the greek television in the middle 90's. It was about a young guy who became a football player. After searching a bit I found info about Captain Tsubasa, but the plot I've read does not match that of the one I'm searching for. Note that the show was translated in Greek from French
A few things about the plot:
The protagonist was called Benjamen, he was in love with a girl named Catherine and some other characters' names were Eric, Cezar and Maccarone.
His first team was in Italy and its colours were red and black(at least I think so). He used to be trained by a doctor (I think named Dr Robson) and one of his first tasks were to catch a fleeing chicken(!).
Does any of the above ring a bell? Any help would be appreciated!
