Unusual anime themes?

Hi! I know that in Japan, a lot of manga of unusual themes (well, at least for westerners) are published: themes like 'financial adventures of brokers and multinational executives', 'everyday lives of housewifes', 'state secrets and corrupt politics', 'bureau fights for power among the military', and so on. I suppose some of them must go as anime.
I like the all-scene famous series which everybody likes (school rumble, samurai champloo, and so on) but I also would like to get some recomendations on unusual themes (generally, more adult) like the aforementioned noted.
Series like "Sanctuary" or even "Silent Service", I mean.
