Alternative animes to watch
I was wondering, what alternative animes are there and would you recommend? Something in the lines of Blame!, heavy atmosphere, not the usual kind of animation stuff.

i've looked at your list and you have more animes that i, i tried comparing, but i guess that hide common and show other uncommon is not yet a feature of the compare lists, so help a bit rar, point some (3) animes that have good and alternative art, and not mainstream storys, i'm carving for something not mainstream..
Okay, depends what you want...
If you want Blame atmosphere... read the manga, and spin offs.
Short stuff to get started, slightly westernised style,
Try the crazy threesome of:
Trava (50 min)
World Record (10 min)
Dead Leaves (50 min)
Or Morimoto's drugs-are-good shorts:
Noiseman (15 min)
4 Day Weekend (4 mins)
Beyond (15 min)
You can extend this of course, by watching the rest of The Animatrix, and the remaining animation off Grasshoppa. And everything else s4c.
Want decent animation, and non-cliche design, can go for:
Alien 9 (4 eps)
Boku no Marie (3 eps)
Shadow Skill (3 eps)
If you want cinematic quality animation, but lots of different styles, then try the shorts-in-films
Robot Carnival
Memories
Meikyuu Monogatari
If you want current tv series, you've basically got a choice between Gonzo and Madhouse, Gankutsuou and Akagi being respective highlights.
In the unlikely event you think, like me, that the early AIC ovas roxors, and can put up with their bad bits (like tentacles), everything from the first Iczer through to the last Bubblegum Crisis is golden. Watched Dragon's Heaven recently, interesting style, well worth seeing.
For just best-animation-money-can-buy, watch Akira and everthing Ghib you can find already.
However, even if you ignore every other suggestion I've made, go for this one:
MIND GAME
Rar

Re: Alternative animes to watch
Well, this was the first trial of my Similar Animes thing that I am working on, and according to it, there isn't anything like Blame!.fahrenheit wrote:I was wondering, what alternative animes are there and would you recommend? It listed three things, Bubblegum Crash!, Maze Megaburst Space (Maze Bakunetsu Jikuu) and The Big O (Big O), and none of them were close matches (they were JUST above the cut-off point of 750). I haven't seen any of them, so I don't know if these are relevant, but the first two in particular don't seem to have much of a likeness at all, probably just people having a similar dislike of it. I know that doesn't help, but it probably means that there really isn't much like Blame!.
