Tear-jerking moments in anime
Moderator: AniDB
I just recently watched episodes 82-83 of Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu or Legend of Galactic Heroes in English. During one scene I had to pause the playback because I couldn't see, as I was crying like a baby. Granted, you need to watch the entire show for the effect to take hold, but then LoGH is such a great anime that you really ought to watch all of it imo.

Hmmm..
It is really strange that no body mentioned Samurai X Seisouhen Ending. I have seen almost all of the titles you mentioned. I agree that most of them are sad, they made my days worse, but never got me to cry.
I have seen a lot of animes (i guess more than 300 title thus far). The only anime that got me crying, no not crying, In fact I was gasping for a breath, was the ending I saw in seisouhen (reflection)..
Thank you
Mohammed

Note: contains spoilers (Kenshin Seisouhen)
As I said, I watched over 300 anime title, a lot of them contained sad moments. My usuall reaction to such a moment is to freeze and never to cry (sometimes I even smile). I never cried watching a movie or an anime. Yet, tears were running down my cheeks watching Reflection and I couldn't resist it.
I rewatched Kenshin Tv and trust and betrayal 3 or 4 times. But I never dared to rewatch reflection.
Thank you

I agree that it was disappointing to end a hero the way they did, but,... what made the difference was the way of presentation. They made the viewers live his death for 50 long minutes. He was not killed in a fight, he was not stabbed, but he suffered a pain of a disease that was presented to the viewers through the eyes of his wife and his friends (which made the whole incident mroe intense). Thats why I was gasping even before he died. Yet that was not enough for them. The final scene literally broke every strip of strength I was holding to by two words - Tadaima and okaerinasai - .Trilandian wrote:I actually watched the ending of Seihounen, and even though I admit that it was sad, it was more disappointing. I was dissatisfied with the way that a hero like Kenshin just withered away like that.

Well, I never cried at anime as well, I also don't cry in general. I know it sounds primitive, but I was raised under the principle that men don't cry, and what would probably sound more primitive is that I agree. Actually, the last time I cried was, like, a year ago after watching "The Butterfly Effect", it's not sad, it's just GOOD. I never dared to watch it again since.
I mentioned Gungrave not because it made me cry, but rather because of all the times an anime got me close to crying, that one was the closest.

Well my friend, I dont think this is something primitive. It happens to be one of the things I believe in. Heheh, I encourage the idea. Men MUST never cry. otherwise, they are not men. Chrno Crusade - the ending
Air TV - the ending...if you can make some sense out of it.
Kimi ga Nozomu Eien - several intense moments, one right off the bat
Soukyuu no Fafner: Right of Left (you won't really need to see series first)
Gunslinger Girl - mostly the end, but the entire theme as well
Saikano - just about everywhere, untill you come to expect it
Texhnolyze - very violent, but ending got to me
