Taskbar notifications

Hey all, I'm from around the ARC boards, but came across an idea that might be nice (I'm sure you've all heard that one before, lol)..

Well, I really enjoy the little notifications system you have when you login, and was thinking.. "man, I always have to open up firefox.. go to anidb.. login.." to check for new anime notifications.. Well, what if you could just get a little taskbar program to just sit there and hit the db like maybe every hr or so for new notifies?

Good side--
Less Website hits.. less bandwidth used there

Bad side--
More hits on the DB..

I'm not sure on the situation but i know depending on the situation it might go either way.

If you think its a good idea but got your hands full, i wouldn't mind doing it, since i'm an experienced programmer ( ...and the project would take about 30 minutes to complete anyways ) I would just need approval of the idea.

there have been several attempts to make something like this before, but none of them have resulted in anything usable (afaik).

you are of course welcome to make such a client, but you _should_ use the udp api and not just parse the website.

hmm, thanks for the direction. I'll look into that today and see what I can come up with shortly.

And yes, I don't think anyone would be happy with me parsing the site. lol, that was never my goal.. That would just make people very angry!
