Adding existing files with different names
I would first like to note that I thought this issue might have been addressed before, but I must not be wording my searches right cause I couldn't find any posts on it. I will rely on the veterans of this board to direct me to any solutions that already exist.
Here is some background info, I started a spreadsheet a few years ago to keep track of my anime collection and found it very primitive, hard to search and hard to update. I now have over 2,000 official DVDs and 800 burned DVDs of fansubs, so I finally decided to turn to aniDB. To enter the fansubs manually into anidb mylist (roughly 15,000 episodes & movies) would take an extraordinarily long time so I downloaded the AOM program to speed up the process.
Now comes the problem. A lot of the files I have got renamed somewhere along the line and are different from the name on record in aniDB i.e.
Ranma 1-2 - 089 - 5x01 Gimme That Pigtail! - [aX](03e6ff24)(dub.sub jap.eng.eng).mkv
and
[ax]_ranma_½_-_season_05_-_01_-_gimme_that_pigtail__atobe_dvd_rip_[03e6ff24].mkv
When I run the 'add files' function of AOM the files are hashed and show up as purple (unknown), and unable to add to mylist, even thought the file size, crc, and Ed2k hash are identical to the one listed in aniDB.
Take Ranma ½ s5 ep1 for example. The file I have is identical to the one in aniDB by Anime-Xtreme here except for the file name.
Is there some way for AOM to recognize files by crc and file size and add them to my list as the file already on record, or automatically rename them to the filename used in aniDB once crc is verified?
The only options I can see other than the two above are adding the files to aniDB and having two identical files on record with different files names, or spending the next ? month(s) adding them in manually. Not something I am looking forward to.
I am open to ideas and suggestions, possibly an added feature to AOM?
Thanks in advance

files are identified by size and ed2k hash, so filenames are irrelevant.
if that is true it could be a temporary random issue. try to restart AOM. if that don't help:Hanako wrote:When I run the 'add files' function of AOM the files are hashed and show up as purple (unknown), and unable to add to mylist, even thought the file size, crc, and Ed2k hash are identical to the one listed in aniDB.
(exit AOM first)PetriW wrote:If you get some weird error, almost every time the way to fix it is to open the kowai folder in the aom folder and delete all files that don't start with "local_".
I tried both restarting AOM and clearing the kowai folder, but neither made a difference. The files are still showing up as unknown.
On a positive note, I was able to copy the ed2k links in AOM and successfully added them to my list with ed2kDump. This is a big improvement over the manual adding proccess I thought I would face, even if it does take an extra step over full automation with AOM.

Did you let aom download the dump file and add the animes in it?Hanako wrote:I tried both restarting AOM and clearing the kowai folder, but neither made a difference. The files are still showing up as unknown.

A log wouldn't hurt, it can be seen under the anidb log tab.
Just a side question, how do you know the ed2k values are correct, what tool did you use to calculate them?
Another option is to try another program (like WebAOM), if that cannot reconcile the files, then there must be something different about the files...
Hmm, it is interesting that the file is not AOM verified yet...

I used AOM to calculate the ed2k values and manually checked them against the ones in aniDB, so I know the files aren't corrupt. I am also able to use ed2k dump and WebAOM to add known episodes, but many of the series' I have are unknown because nobody has added the version I have yet. Using AOM would make adding these to aniDB much easier since it stores a record of all the added files hash, codec, and bitrate info for future reference.
I think I may have found the problem. Even though AOM initially connects to aniDB, in the log there is an illegal input or access denied error and then it disconnects again. I already opened a port in my firewall for this program and it seems to be reaching aniDB ok. I also checked my username and pw, it's not those cause when I chance the password to an invalid one I get a wrong password message.
So what could be causing the error message?
P.S. I should probably mention that in AOM nothing is showing up under mylist or statistics. At first I thought it was just a delay, but now it seems that may not be the case.
I have also deleted all AOM files and unzipped them again for a fresh start, even to new locations, with no change.

Your internet explorer is broken or something? It fails to download the dump files which are quite essential for anything in AOM to work.[2/4/2006 5:05:26 AM] - Trying to connect to AniDB...

Make sure you can connect to anidb.info with IE.
This is weird. No idea why it isn't working then...Hanako wrote:It's version 6.xxx.2180 with sp2. Should be up to date.
It might be you have some antispyware / antivirus / firewall tool that block aoms usage of internet explorer.
Anyway, the reason it isn't working has something to do with internet explorer. Get that fixed and aom will work, otherwise I recommend WebAOM.
I tried disabling all virus scanners and firewalls, as well as disabling and removing all Spybot protection. That is all the 3rd party network monitoring and protection software I run. I also reinstalled WinXP SP2 and reset all network and IE6 settings to default with no change in the log error.
Any suggestions or ideas?
