Using AniDB website in GCfilms

Hello,

I'm manager of GCfilms project ( https://gna.org/projects/gcfilms/ ). It
is an application that can be used to manage a private movie collection.
User enters movies information and then some searches can be performed
(e.g. to select which movie could be watched).

To ease this software usage, it has an automatic search system. Providing
only movie title, GCfilms will perform an Internet search, trying to find
a matching movie. Then it will get the associated information (Director,
actors,...).

Some users requested to have a plugin using your web site as information
source. I'd like then know whether it is a problem for you to have it in
GCfilms.

However, I'd like to let you about some facts that can be useful. This
application is totally free. It is distributed according to GNU GPL
license ( http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html ). So it will be free
forever. Only volunteers are working on it. They are all independant and
there is no company behind it.

Downloaded information are only for personal use. Everything is like if
the user copied information from his web browser and pasted them into a
text file stored on his hard drive. GCfilms is only a way to do this more
easily.

User knows the information source. He choose himself which website have to
be used and its logo is displayed (you may choose which logo you would
like to be used).

Then, when movie information are displayed in GCfilms, there is a button
linking directly to your website.

You can find more information and precisions about GCfilms with above
link. Do not hesitate also to contact if you need more information.

So please let me know whether the plugin corresponding to your website can
be made for GCfilms by someone in its team. If there are some problems
with that, I'd like to know them to be sure there is no misunderstanding.

Kind regards,

Tian.

PS: I use this forum as the only email address I found on the website doesn't exist anymore (I got an error message from mail server).

You already visited the development forum, did you?

I guess you can do what you want with the UDP api specs, but then, I have no clue about web programming, so maybe not.

Yes I did. But it seemed to me it was not related to the same problem. I don't want to create an AniDB client. And I also doesn't need all the update features. We will create a plugin for an existing software that will only do some searches.

Thanks for your help. Let's wait what is the official position from webmasters. I really hope it will be OK as this site seems to be a great source for anime information.

Yes. However, imho there's a difference between movies and series. And imdb probably has every animated feature film that is commercially available (at least it delivered results with random searches I did), so this would make for a more rewarding plugin. If you want to manage your anime collection, anidb provides means itself for that. Just my opinion, of course.

Why to you use 80 columns on our bulletin board?
You don't need to add carriage returns on a forum, you know. :)

We send the same message to all websites before making a plugin in GCfilms. And generally there is a mail contact on websites. So this message is formatted to be sent as an email.

So, as no AniDB responsible raise any problem, should I consider it is OK?
