Ummmm trouble connecting to ar?

Post by SW20 »

Okay this is not about this site but i don't really know where to post this...
(mod can del if you think this does not belong here)

But for some reason recently i can't connect to AR, i can ping and it got like 30 ms avg, , AnimDB load really fast too but i can't connect on the damn AR. It was slow in the five past days but now it simply won't connect... Anyone got a clue on what's going on?

I've have received an awesome error now, after 5 mins of wait...

Edit:
Okay... AR seem to be working.
But not animDB.
Proxy Error
The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server.

The proxy server could not handle the request GET /perl-bin/animedb.pl.

Reason: Could not connect to remote machine: Connection refused

While updates are being done to AniDB you might see that error.
AR, yes it's mostly inaccessible... nothing we can do for now.

I kinda wonder how it is possible that the AR forums are nearly inaccessible, while AniDB seem to be relatively OK (not really fast either though). :? Also, it seems AR forum only became nearly inaccessible in the last 1-2 weeks. Is AniDB expanding at such an incredible rate since the last few weeks? Perhaps something that was changed in AniDB is causing this?
Perhaps a PayPal account should be opened so that we can all donate something so that the hardware can be upgraded. I'm sure there are lots of people here and at AR that are willing to help (at least I am). :)

that's the difference between phpbb and perl :P

good question... would like to know that myself

as for funding, currently, the solutions for this situation are being discussed atm... although anidb will most probably remain a non-profit site... even if people would be willing to donate.. but who knows...

What is funny is that all these speed issues started to happen after caching was added to most of AniDB.

Yeah, however the load increase did not happen with the introduction of the caching options (end Jan.) but sometime later (mid Feb.)
According to the anidb changelog the closest change was the new anime hint version by egg.
However, IIRC he did only layout changes.

Hmm. Noticed something just now, the load increase pretty much matches with the announcement of new anidb clients on the mainpage.
The number of client users increased quite a bit from one day to the next with that newspost it seems.

Just disable AniDB access for them for some days so we can see if they are the troublemakers. If that's the problem let's ditch them or ask them to pay for a server. :P
