AniDB

I am about to enter a handful of files for RahXephon to the database. But the form provided by "mass add" (any maybe even the data model of this site) appears not to be flexible enough for these strange files which consist these streams:
1. a raw video stream in Xvid
2. a German audio stream in AAC
3. a Japanese audio stream in OggVorbis
4. a German subtitle stream in SRT
The "mass add" form allows me to correctly specify all the languages but I may enter one audio codec only. Which one should I enter here? For the time being I tend to specify the AAC codec as to show this container is something "exotic".

For my personal use I'll create AVI containers with one Xvid stream and one German audio stream converted to MP3, for that's what my standalone DVD player will be able to play over my TV set...

add the codec for the Japanese audio stream, cause that's what most of the ppl will listen and add the german audio stream to the file descriptiob field.

also, if you create your own personal version of a file, then don't add it to AniDB, if you want to still somehow mark that you have a file which wasn't distributed in the net, then add the file to your mylist with the type set to 'self edited' or if you have a corrupted version, then add it as type 'corrupted version/crc invalid'

And if it was not clear enough, nwa is talking about a well known release (by a known group) you altered. If you made a file for your own from original DVDs then use generics.

Said Matroska containers have 10+ complete copies in ed2k already, thus my own version wouldn't probably make it into the market there. Then again if I saw a realistic chance for it I'd want to add the files to the database once they had at least, say, 3-5 complete copies there (and then including ed2k file hashes, checksums and all).

Depends upon what "well-known" means. These Matroska files were "ripped by megamacy" (according to what's shown in the video stream) who is somehow part of the Animefilme group IIRC. There's another release in the database which is tagged as "unknown" there but actually an "Animefilme" release (of which "megamacy" contributed the translation), which is shown in the video stream as well. Should I add "megamacy" as new sub-group of "Animefilme", and request a change for this other release?

Yes.

If you have information available directly from the files, it is in my opinion mandatory to share that info with the other users by adding it to AniDB.

There is no better source than the file itself.

But remember to stick to the info you got there. Please don't try adding info that "could" be valid. If you just think that megamacy is a part of animefilme, then please don't add that info OR try to find out whether your assumption is true and then add it to the DB.

This page (in German) documents a list of "freelancer fansubbers" organized "in relation to" animefilme, of which megamacy and EVA-01 released "Video Girl Ai" and EVA-01 released "Silent Möbius", both marking their release as "for animefilme.de.vu" in the video stream. The "Rahxephon" files (which I was referring to as "Matroska containers") show "ripped by megamacy (animefilme.de.vu)" in the video stream.
It is just not easy to describe the exact way how these "freelancers" are working together with "animefilme.de.vu". Thus I guessed that the "sub-group" object in the aniDB database would probably the best way to express this relation, although the German page explicitly states they're not "members of the animefilme community".
I myself have contributed to a release that is published at this site (and already added to the aniDB database) but I wouldn't consider myself being a regular member of any group just because of this, or else I would open a sub-group for this in aniDB.

So basically this are private rips made availiable to the public.

So I guess there are two options:
Either add each ripper as a group

or add a generic group titled: rippers@p2p or something like this.

Unless they only released one or two files, please add a group entry for each of them - if they tagged their releases, they should aswell get a tag on AniDB.

Only those people who tagged all their releases as "for animefilme" should be added as a subgroup of them. (Please double-check that first, as the "Anime Freelancers" entry on anime-fansubs likely also lists people who are not related to animefilme)
