Ok... im new here and i dont know where this thread suppose to go, so i post here.

in the anidb database, Kannadzuki no Miko's English title is Priestesses of a Godless Moon...

But i found an another possible title of it, Because its from the original's artist, kaishaku's manga. The english title it wrote is 'The Destiny Of Shrine Maidens'.

Hope this help on the database.

Right, I'll try to answer this, and see where I get. Someone more able will correct me if I got too far wrong, I'm sure. The title in question is 神無月の巫女 so, let's see what the base kanji are first (giving some default readings).
神 Generally god (かみ kami)
Nothing, often used in a word for the negative (ム mu)
Moon/Month (つき tsuki)
The hiragana particle の is Of, but with subject and object the other way round from english usage.
Sorcerer/Shrine Maiden (かんなぎ kannagi / みこ miko)
Woman/Female (おな ona)

Now, because each kanji has mulitple readings, and compounding them (adding together to make words) will change both meaning and pronunciation, this isn't much use at the moment. So, if we look up some words:
巫女 Understandably means Sorceress/Shrine Maiden, with the reading (ふじょ fujyo)
Now, as the current translation gives 'Godless' I tried looking up 神無 next (which would make sense as god-less), and interestingly found only:
神無月 (obs) Tenth Lunar Month (かんなづき kannazuki)

Now, bowing to the better knowledge of all the people who've actually seen this, I'd say the current translation makes sense:
Priestesses of a Godless Moon
(巫女) (の) (神無) (月)

Priestess vs. Shrine Maiden for 巫女 is obviously just an issue for the translator's better judgement, and I really can't pull 'Destiny' out of 神無月 - so I'd say the current is good.
Of the off chance everybody is completely wrong, the title would be quite fun as Priestesses of October :D

On a side note, the romajification 'Kannadzuki' is redundant. Not only is the pronuciation of ず and づ equivalent in modern japanese, the romaji 'dzu' is deeply misleading as a guide for english speakers. Also the spelling rule can be worked out quite easily from knowing you keep the つ of 月 (つき tsuki).

Well, looking at the story itself, "Godless Moon" doesn't make sense at all. After all, the notion of the anime is that there are a shrine, within that shrine, a god (both located on the moon), and two priestesses with the power to unseal that shrine (on Earth). Judging by how the story progresses, "destiny" would fit, but I agree that with the kanji given, it's unlikely that one can pull that interpretation from them.

I also know japanese, if you translate directly, godless might be correct...

but the original artist manga wrote The destiny of shrine maidens...

shud we say the original artist is wrong?

Well, I agree with you... It's English title not English translation. But we must remember that it might change when the licensor release the DVD in USA.

Oh, I agree with DonGato, don't get me wrong here. Official English title is probably whatever the US Licencees call it, however horrible a translation they make (some exep tions). And certainly, if something is know by an english name in japan, that will stick.
However, firstly an anime by no means always follows the mold or title of the manga its based on, and some 'english titles' tend to be more subtitles rather than translations, probably picked because the 漫画家 liked it more than for accuracy. The primary audience is not english native remember, so such things will generally be for colour rather than function. Peli reminds me of this.

At the bottom of each Anime's page, there are the following links

Add Part - Mass Add - Request Edit - Export ED2K Links - Back
Add/Edit: Synonym/Short Title - Relations - Genre

Press "Request Edit" and you can add the synonym. After a moderator reviewed the request, it will be granted, depending on the validity of the request. Simply add the URL to this forum thread to the Change Request's (CREQ) comment box.

err... make that: "Press 'Synonym/Short Title' (not 'Request Edit') to add a new synonym." - unless you want to have the title you mentioned replace the current english title, then you'd indeed have to use the "request edit" link. If that's the case, please include a link to the scanned picture, because without some proof, these requests could go back and forth. ^^;

Btw, KiddoKenshin, you might be interested in having a look at the Website Documentation Forum, specifically First steps. ;)
