Ok, AMVs are not allowed in anidb - but my understanding from this thread is the fan-made chop-and-dub jobs, and 'proper' things are allowed.
So, what about short animation to music? - Egao
Or animation commissioned to go with a song? - On Your Mark
Or animation commissioned by a european pop group? - Interstella5555
I ask this as I've just added Extra as it's an interesting spin off from some of the Studio 4°C stuff that's been making the rounds recently, and could add more, including stuff commissioned by groups outside japan. However... with anime becoming as poular as it is, the last thing I want to do is flood anidb with a load of Linkin Park music videos. So... any guidelines from the mods on this?
(wasn't sure where to post this... move as needed)

AMV Clarification

Seeing as no-one seems willing to offer an opinion, I'll offer a few alternatives.
1) Delete all commisioned work from Anidb.
2) Delete all short animations which consist of one song.
3) Delete all short animations unless they are by a recognised studio or person.
Of course, there will be grey edges however the line is drawn, but here are some ramifications.
'It's not anime' unless it was created as an independant story, by a japanese production studio. Well, we live in a commercial world. A good amount of anime is now made along with, or even *after* the merchandise.
1) would mean thinking about deleting Di Gi Charat, Aquarian Age, a fair bit of the kiddy stuff, a lot of hentai and h-game derivatives such as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, The Animatrix and other western interventions, etcetc. Perhaps not a bad thing, but could get confusing.
2) Is more restricted, but still covers a fair bit of stuff, and much of it very interesting. On Your Mark is better than 90% of the 'proper' anime I've seen. Short format tends to produce more creativity and experimentation in animation, and many shorts have more content than some full series.
3) Risks getting elitist, or perhaps flooding anidb with a lot of random pants. Anyone know how many AMVs are fully animated?
Bad solutions:
4) Delete all AMVs but the 'popular' ones.
5) Group all AMVs in one 'catch-all' anime entry.

Just my opinion:
I'd tend to keep as much as possible (maybe with a special "Official AMV" type and an option to hide those), as long the MV is either: Fully* animated, directly related to an anime and not fan-made - or: a fully* animated video of a Japanese song.
If the MV in question is significantly longer than 5 minutes (and again: fully* animated), it qualifies as OVA-like anyway, so it should be added/kept regardlessly. (E.g. Interstella5555)
*) well "fully"... let's say at least 95%.

I think that we should keep in mind that there are a lot of official promos in here that are little more than video clips/stills set to either a voiceover or music. Fully animated doesn't always seem to be a priority when making something anime related, and these are certainly things I like having in the database. (Particularly in my mind for 'not fully animated' is Tenchi's Here Comes Jurai part 2).
I think that the safest way to do this is to say official work only, where official==created/commissioned/approved of by the creator of the anime/song. And here we can say Japanese music only as well. (So, "I hereby give my permission for Excel Saga to be made into an anime music video" counts, I think.)
Essentially, I'd say that the database isn't going to become full because of a few music videos, and we should err on the side of caution (that is, keeping too much in the db).

But the same file is already inside AnyDB:

Well, this says 'R2 Motorball CG' which implies it's a dvd extra, therefore official. The just added wotsit here with description in nice broken frenglish doesn't really give much info, but to clarify:
Any 'compilation' type AMV that takes footage from an existing animation and overlays new (often also ripped) audio, should NOT be in anidb. The minor execption here is official, professional reworks, done by the company that owns the original work (often as a DVD extra or somesuch). These can be added as specials to the anime the come from.
On the assumption you added this new entry, can you clarify what you mean by '100% made by a fan, 100% animated'? If by made/animated you mean chopshop ripped, this should not have been added. If you mean one person animated the whole AMV (presumably in formal breach of copyright in this case [I know, p2p, haha]), and it's got production standards higher than South Park, there may be more of an issue to discuss.
