Volume too low... how to boost volume?

My problem is not with an anime but with a BBC documentary that I downloaded. Essentially, the volume ov the narrator is not high enough and I'd really like to boost the volume somehow.

I tried various players without any results (BsPlayer, WMP, Winamp)
And of course I set my speaker's volume as well as the volume of my player to the max.
Unfortunately, that little program that comes with windows that lets you adjust the volume at the bottom right corner of the screen was accidentally deleted a long time ago and I don't know how to get it back.

So is there any way, maybe another program, that would allow me to boost the volume?

Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Sounds (exact name differs)
You should find a checkbox titled "Show volume control on the taskbar" there.

If that doesn't work, there are still ways to up the volume for videos - but I suggest to try the above first. ;)

I tried what you suggested. Now I do have that Icon in my notification area thanks to you. I set the volume to max with it. I even set the volume specifically for the video component to the max. Either there was no boost in volume or my volume was already set o the max beforehand. So is there any other way to increase the volume?

Maybe it is the same problem, as mentioned here:

Is the BBC documentary using AC3? (You don't know, use GSpot)
Do you have the AC3 Open Source filter installed? (AC3Filter)
You might need to set the preset to Loud or increase master and gain sliders to the max.

EDIT: should read all posts before replying. :P
