How is playing time computed for the files? I've noticed a few files that have "0 min" for playing time in the database.

It's not computed - it's entered manually. In consequence, a 0 means "unknown"

If you want to add the runtimes for some of the eps you care for, click on the ep-number and choose "request edit" in the new window.
